And nobody died. I’m not recommending anyone else do the same, just pointing out the unlikelihood of perishing if you happen to use it a few hours after it has officially expired. A bit of common sense and general knowledge would suggest that anything as salty and acidic as this is most unlikely to be able to sustain any kind of bacterial or viral life and is therefore equally unlikely to able to cause any problems especially if you are going to cook with it. You’re not even likely to get a dose of botulism as that generally occurs in unopened products because it thrives anaerobically (or so my vet ex-husband used to inform me whenever I gave him a chicken spread sandwich). With a high degree of excess of caution I think I chose not to use my antique bottle in salad dressings or anything else uncooked but that was more like superstitious thinking and a (highly uncharacteristic) degree of self-doubt rather than rationality. As I say, I’m not suggesting anyone seek to replicate my unintended experiment, but I do think it unlikely that anyone, especially if in normal health, would be likely to suffer ill effects by using a slightly out-of-date bottle. I wouldn’t give uncooked food made using a substantially out-of-date bottle to a baby (duh!), an elderly person or anyone immuno-compromised. But otherwise I’d suggest people can strike this off their worry list and replace it with, say, wondering whether Donald Trump might not really be just having a laugh on us all. And you can read that however seems to make most sense to you. Just like the ‘Use by’ date on a bottle of salty, acidic sauce. **Q: Is this gluten free?** A: It’s anchovy, garlic, lemon and olive oil as far as I know. It’s brilliant for zizzing up all sorts of meat and veg dishes. I never allow us to run out **Q: Is this Gluten Free?** A: I believe it to be gluten free. It has spirit vinegar and not malt vinegar. Malt has gluten this doesn't.
