It's higher pitch than you would expect from a train horn, but because of its size it is to be expected. You could buy five of these and still not be as expensive as an actual train horn kit. If you have minor knowledge of wiring, this will be an easy install for you. I mounted mine up using some modified connection points to attach to and aftermarket harness I had already installed previously, and incorporated the old horns extension bracket to be able to mount it in the same location of the engine bay. I would definitely recommend putting some thread lock on some of the mounting bracket bolts. The kit comes with serrated lock nuts, which I personally feel won't hold up to the vibrations of the engine, so a little bit of threadlock will fix that.
