Review: Perfect scanner for home use - Great little scanner, especially when paired with an external antenna to help out the supplied ariel. It's extremely easy to set up, has a relatively small desktop footprint, comes preprogrammed with hundreds of commonly used PD/FD and air traffic channels, and also receives short wave, national and local weather and FM stations. Excellent deal!
Review: Great, basic analog scanner - My old Radio Shack scanner finally gave up the ghost, so I was looking for a simple, basic replacement. This unit does not disappoint. First, I am in a rural area, so all scanner frequencies here are analog. Also, I have software (PSREdit) which has a database of all the frequencies I use... it hooked up perfectly with this scanner and uploaded the files without a problem. The cable I had from my Radio Shack unit worked fine! Also, I have a subscription from RadioFrequencies.com, which downloads its database to the PSREdit program, so there was no manual programming I needed to do. There are 10 banks, with 30 channels each, so plenty of room for the 50 or so frequencies that I monitor. The sound is crisp and clear. There are pre-programmed channels for EMS/Police/Fire, but these were not really useful to me in my area. I would highly recommend you check RadioFrequencies.com for your area and get the local frequencies you need there, and program them in. Finally, there is one minor issue, but not critical: My old Radio Shack scanner showed the description of the channel being received... this scanner does not. I sort of miss that; but since I setup banks for EMS, Fire, Police, etc., I can tell by which bank is lit where the call is originating. (Also, all calls always announce who they are at the onset of the message). All in all, a solid unit for the price!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: DO YOU NEED AN OUTSIDE ANTENA**
A: NO you do not need an "OUTSIDE" Antenna! In fact some may even DAMAGE your scanner! One Addition might be a Long Telescoping Antenna with a BNC Connection available on AMAZON that does in fact HELP your reception without damaging your scanner. Don't plan on "RUNNING AROUND" though when it is Connected and extended!! At this writing they go for $9.99 for 2. "Baosity 2pcs 7 Sections Telescopic Antennas w/BNC Connector for Portable Radio Scanner" I've used one on my RADIO SHACK Scanners for quite awhile! Happy Scanning!!

**Q: Does it work with 900 mhz**
A: No. This one is analog you would need digital

**Q: We cannot pick anything up. All static. Occasionally fire department. What's the problem?**
A: Sounds like an antenna problem. Make sure the built-in antenna is securely connected. Also try an external antenna if that doesn't work.

**Q: how do you get codes for your area**
A: The Quick Start Guide tells you to go to www.radioreference.com to locate a list of frequencies in your area.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great, basic analog scanner

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good scanner with a few small draw backs
*by F***E on September 19, 2025*

The Whistler WS1025 is a solid, easy-to-use scanner. Programming the channels was straightforward once I got the hang of it, and the backlit LCD display makes it easy to read, even in low light. The audio is clear, and it picks up local police, fire, and weather channels well. That said, it does take a little time to learn how to navigate all the features if you’re new to scanners, and the included manual could be a bit clearer. Also, being analog-only, it won’t pick up digital systems used in some areas. Overall, it’s a reliable unit for the price—great for listening to local activity and weather alerts, just keep in mind its limitations.
