In fact some may even DAMAGE your scanner! Programming the channels was straightforward once I got the hang of it, and the backlit LCD display makes it easy to read, even in low light. The audio is clear, and it picks up local police, fire, and weather channels well. That said, it does take a little time to learn how to navigate all the features if you’re new to scanners, and the included manual could be a bit clearer. Also, being analog-only, it won’t pick up digital systems used in some areas.
