## Questions & Answers

**Q: What is "For Talisman use only"?**
A: 'Talisman Use Only' means 'not for oral consumption', which protects the manufacturer from liability for anyone taking it orally.  Of course Iodine is a naturally occurring trace element that many of us don't get enough of from our diet.  Iodine supports thyroid functioning:  too little means the thyroid is sluggish, too much means the thyroid is in overdrive -- neither extreme is healthy.  FDA does not allow health claims for supplements and I suspect the fact that Lugol's formula contains both potassium iodide (most common across supplement formulas) and Iodine (uncommon but adding it is what Lugol's formula is known for).  

Notice that the bottle does not recommend any dosage and doesn't even tell you how many micrograms are in the glass dropper but it can be calculated.  Other iodine supplements recommend 1,000 micrograms per day (not milligrams).  That's a really small amount.  Regardless of the brand, Lugol's formula is the same.   Healthcare websites calculations give us this amount for Lugol's formula:  2 drops is about 5.0 mg's of iodine/iodide (2.0 mg iodine, 3.0 mg iodide).  That amount is useful for some purposes (antiseptic) but far too much for most people, you don't want to burn out your thyroid -- you would become very sick indeed.

**Q: How many mg of iodine per drop?**
A: According to the Lugols website, one drop of 2% gives 1.0 mg of iodine and 2.0 mg of potassium iodide.

**Q: My lugols iodine no longer has a taste...both sealed and unsealed. Is this normal or should I buy a fresh bottle?**
A: Unknown. I have only used Lugoll's Formula mixed with vegetable juice so never noticed any taste. I do not believe it was ever intended for direct undiluted ingestion. You can do a potato starch test to see if it has iodine in it. Iodine does not have a freshness date and does not go stale.

**Q: Can this be used for water purification?**
A: Yes. You should do some research regarding the amount to use for the type of water involved. It can also be used to remove poisonous "FLUORIDE", from your body. I used 40-50 drops in a cup of tea or coffee daily and within a couple of weeks I noticed my teeth were no longer opaque and as my nails grew, no more white spots appeared on my nails, and they were so strong I could use them like a box cutter to open cardboard boxes

After a fair amount of online research, I felt there was potential for benefit from an iodine supplement -- possibly great benefit, but almost certainly a little. So much goes on inside our bodies of which we are not aware until it is too late to prevent catastrophic illness that it seems prudent not only to try to eat a balanced diet (which is impossible to identify, thanks to so much conflicting information available, complicated by one's individual physiology), but identify those things which seem likely to be of help in warding off or curing maladies. Research and reason led me to believe that iodine is not only one of those things of help, but very *rare* in its ability to positively impact our health in different ways. I encourage anyone reading this to do his own research. (I also encourage you to carefully consider the sources of information. If people can successfully treat and prevent cancer with simple, inexpensive iodine and/or *baking soda*, doctors, hospitals, and pharmaceutical companies stand to lose *billions of dollars* for treating cancer patients (many of whom are killed by the treatments). Keep this in mind: a far greater percentage of people die of cancer now than a hundred years ago, before chemotherapy and radiation treatments began development. I don't know for sure that the treatment is worse than the disease -- and it might be -- but it's clear that people are at least *getting* cancer at higher rates than ever and there is a fair body of work suggesting that (1) the vast majority of us have iodine-deficient diets (outside of Japan and a few other areas) and (2) there seems to be a correlation between iodine deficiency and malignant cancer rates (which are very low in Japan and a few other areas). Again, there is a lot of information to consider and I strongly encourage you to do your own before making decisions that will affect your health. Reading this review is a start, but don't stop here.) Everything considered, I decided that taking a Lugol's iodine solution is a good, safe bet for me. I decided to try this Carlyle's offering based on potency (2%, as I wanted to start off slowly and have greater flexibility in dosage), availability (same/next day), and price (cheap). The day I got it, I put two (2) drops in about eight (8) ounces of water and drank it. Within hours, I noticed a slight but certain increase in energy to a level that I hadn't felt in years. It felt natural and sustained -- not the short-lived, jittery feeling one gets from a large cup of coffee or some "instant energy" drink that you just *know* will have negative long term effects on your body from having placed your systems in overdrive. That first night, it did take me a couple more hours to get tired enough to sleep, but in the ensuing days I have been able to resume my normal sleep schedule despite taking 2 drops of Lugol's twice or thrice daily and enjoying sustained, natural-feeling energy levels every day. (Note: I am over 60 years old and work on my feet ten (10) hours per day. The difference is real -- and welcome. Noticeable results in you may differ.) Besides using water as a medium, I have put my 2 drops of Lugol's in anywhere from 4 to 12 ounces of apple juice, milk, coffee, and root beer. I have found it unobjectionable in all of the above. When bringing drink to face, I notice the aroma of the iodine before drinking it; frankly it seems unnatural. After all, this is the smell of tincture of iodine (which is alcohol-based, unlike Lugol's) -- the stuff used to disinfect woulds and make them sting. (Who likes the stinging part? I still use it, though, because it WORKS.) The taste is very mild -- and might be unnoticeable if I exhaled at the start. I'll have to try it... but it doesn't bother me in drinking it normally, so it's no big deal if breathing helps or not. Sorry for the meandering review, but though I'm anxious to get back to something pressing, I wanted to share my experience with others in the hope that it will provide them with useful information in providing themselves with better health; I just had to get this out there.
