It's a strong magnet that can hold the name tag in place easily, and the adhesive is really good at sticking. I used UV-Resistant Plastic name tags (bought from McMasterCarr) and these backings worked very well with them! A huge pack so I have a ton extra, but at the time of purchasing this product (july 2016) it was the best deal available (price per piece).
