Absolutely no preservatives. Barley is a cereal grain that can be used for brewing, as well as in soups, stews, breads and other health foods. Barley has a rich, nutlike flavor and an appealing chewy, pasta like consistency. Barley is a great source of fiber and other important nutrients. All of the Joseph's Grainery brand Barley is grown on our family farm in the Palouse Region of Washington State. Unhulled barley must be soaked for 24 hours prior to cooking. Unhulled Barley still has it's hull. Review: Great value - I bought this when I started making food for my dogs. I was using rice, but it adds weight from the carbs. Barley is an excellent filler with fiber instead of carbohydrates. This still keeps my ground turkey, barley, sweet potato and carrot stew affordable. I can throw it all in a pot to boil and have a great topper and/or meal in just 45 minutes. I don't soak it overnight, and I only boil it for 40-45 minutes. I made a fresh batch for my self using the soak and boil for 1-1/2 hours method but I didn't really notice much difference from what I made for them in the shorter time. Review: Very impressed - I love to support smaller businesses and especially ones who provide good healthy products. The grain arrived direct from the grower not a third party. That tells me it likely hasn't sat in a warehouse exposed to who knows what. It appears very fresh and good....I do plan to try my hand at growing a little, but the rest is being cooked or stored.
