A blackberry usually grows one year and doesn't fruit until the following season. Freedom fruits this way very early in the season, but then fruits again in the fall where the climate is suitable. Freedom also has exceptional extra large fruit size, good flavor and the plant grows upright and needs little or no staking. Zones 5-9, space 5' circle or 5' apart. Review: Authentic, healthy Prime Ark Freedom - I purchased these plants in April of 2022. They arrived disease-free and vigorous, and I planted them immediately in their own semi-rasied beds near a fence line. Like any good gardener, I took some time before the purchase to learn about the cultivar and its requirements. While the plants all grew to over 5 feet in their first year, they did not flower. I was only mildly disappointed, as I knew that may happen. This spring, after being properly pruned during the winter, they are exploding with flowers which will hopefully become berries. Regardless, the plants themselves are authentic Prime Ark Freedom and they are not difficult to maintain. They grow very quickly and there are some tipping requirements to help them branch, but in general they are very disease and rust resistant and easy. They do spread via root suckers, I've found them as far as two feet away from the main stem, but those are easily trimmed. I use Miracle-gro Performance Organics General Purpose and Edibles fertilizers, with the Edibles being used during flowering fruiting. I am in USDA Climate Zone 8a, in SC. I absolutely recommend this variety and this vendor. This year they have grown even longer. Hard to give as true length as they are growing up and weaving in and out of a trellis. Did not get any berries last year. This year the vines are covered with blossoms and even some young green berries. **Q: do you think with adequate watering that this variety would do ok in hardiness zone 9b/10a (San Jose, CA - gets hot in summer, winter mild)?** A: Its super hot in the summer here in Texas. 2 of the plants I received are doing really well. They seem to push thru hot or cold. Need some watering during drought conditions. Thsts about it. They start out sloe, but now they are growing. Probably the best looking live plant that I’ve ever received in the mail. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Tiny LIttle Things *by S***H on June 27, 2023* When received one month ago, they were tiny little things, probably grown from cuttings, in plastic seed starter cells about an inch in diameter and a bit deeper. Smaller cells than those 72 cell trays, they're really tiny. They were alive. But they would not live for long in those tiny cells. I immediately transplanted to 4" square pots and they are putting on good new growth. I keep them outside on a shelf and just make sure they don't dry out. Hopefully by fall I will be able to plant them in the ground without worrying they will die immediately by getting stepped on by a dog.
