Used some in a paella at the weekend, really great taste ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars So far this is 100% real saffron *by M***. on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 20 January 2019* As this product doesn't have many reviews I wanted to write one that gives it justice. But please inform me if I am mistaken.I can assure you so far that this is the real deal. I've posted two pictures, one was take with the flash and the other isn't in case that makes a difference to people. As I know some people use the flash to make it look brighter and others don't like flash for the same reason. Third image shows the individual pieces, I just grabbed these from the top and placed them in the lid of the container, this image has the flash on. These photos were done on a smartphone camera so I apologise if they are not the best, I didn't have any charge left on my actual camera. Royal mail (2nd class) may have bashed them a little bit so some may not look entirely whole but I guess I can't really blame the seller or producer for this, and there's no way to prove they were not already like this before Royal Mail.UPDATE: Finally captured a photo (With flash enabled at close range) of the saffron in slightly warm milk. All the pieces are still red and this was over 30 minutes of soaking, and looks the same as the first time I done it. You will also notice on the image parts of the milk are a darker shade of yellow near the saffron so there was more to go after taking this photo. Some parts look faded but as you can see these parts are actually slightly under the milk, sometimes I push some of them down with my finger and they end up under the milk a little bit but I do this as some saffron sits on top of other saffron and not touching the milk at all so I give them a little push and it ends up trapping some parts underneath. The shadows and patterns on the milk is where the flash has reflected off the glass, in person it's a perfect yellow all over.UPDATE2: I've used this about 8 times now and it has made warm water or milk yellow all over with no loss of colour. Not a speck of fake saffron so far and I've used about 18 strands each time at a minimum to make Biryani.UPDATE3 (19/05/2019): Still using it and no signs of fake saffron yet. I just used it to dye rice yellow for a Tandoori Chicken recipe, and used it in boiling water. 1/8th teaspoon of this dyed 180g of rice.Just to clarify, my saffron came in a metal tin shown in the image and the lid says ATAR Saffron if anyone is curious.1. I've tasted it in my mouth straight from the tin and it DOESN'T taste sweet.2. The smell is like hay/honey (It is a strong smell), which I believe is supposed to be the smell. I've smelled my Greek honey and I definitely smell the similarities. (Just so you know, it's supposed to smell sweet but not taste sweet. And fake Saffron usually has no smell at all, or it may be weak if the real saffron is mixed with fake saffron)3. I placed about 15 -20 strands in milk for about 30 minutes to use for cooking a biryani, every piece was still red and DIDN'T lose their colour, it looked the same as I placed it in. I think it took about 20 minutes for a the golden hue to appear, I can't remember but this is supposed to be another sign of true saffron, fake saffron also Dyes yellow but it can be much faster as the fake stuff is only coated red.3.1 The milk also changed to the colour yellow, but keep in mind fakes can also colour the water, this is just extra information. (Sorry I forgot how much milk I put in, I just poured an amount that looked right).4. Pretty much all the threads I've looked at have held a trumpet shape as it's supposed to, as it's went through royal mail the other parts may have been bashed off in the delivery process.As for quality, from looking at others you may be able to get better quality, likely as you can with everything. I haven't bought Saffron much so i haven't been exposed to a lot of it and other people with more experience may need to chime in.
