It is a hefty sword which is reasonable considering its used as a chopping weapon but you can thrust with it as well. I see others have taken it and modified it, I planned on not modifying it at all as I wanted a robust weapon that would be able to scare other swords. This is a sword that behaves a bit like an axe. It has heft and bites deep which is most likely why it was made this heavy. It is heavy but I am built like a german tank so its fairly easy for me. The handle fits my hand nearly perfectly but a different grip is required to master the cutting styles required for this sword. There are many different ideas about how to wield a viking sword but for this variety the thumb should rest in the middle of the guard instead of the handshake or hammer grip. The reason for this is the pommel bites into the wrist slightly when wielded in the other manners. The weight is such that it lends itself to the axe style of fighting more readily than the sword style and it can be used like a machete in a pinch which cant be said of all swords. It is beautiful and fits VERY snugly in its sheath, it wont come out when held upside down. It comes with a small piece of leather to fit over the blade separate and I do recommend it so it doesnt clack when sheathed. It came well sharpened and oiled. For its heft it is decently well balanced. For the price it is good as it is or as a project sword. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I removed the terrible grip it came with and stitched on a new ... *by M***S on Reviewed in the United States on April 27, 2018* I am the Jarl of a Viking Age Living History Group known as Draugar Vinlands. I bought this sword as a project sword. The transformation of an inexpensive sword to a work of art. After about four hours of work it is almost done. I reshaped the blade, and created a distal taper that didn’t exist at all before I started on it. I removed a ton of material in the process bringing the sword from almost 3.5lbs to 2lbs-14oz and the center of balance is now just 3.75 inches from the guard. Once that was done, I removed the terrible grip it came with and stitched on a new grip cover made of beeswax impregnated calf skin. I also removed the terrible chrome hardware, and black stain from the scabbard and replaced it with chocolate brown dye. All that is left to do now is to file and form the blade section at the guard to make it the same shape and then go ahead with the final polish of the blade. I prefer a matte finish..I’ll post again when the sword is finished and I have added the belt bridge and harness. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ love it *by M***F on Reviewed in the United States on July 27, 2018* Great sword.
