## Description

Synchromesh Transmission Fluid, Friction Modified is a synthetic blend manual transmission fluid designed specifically for use in GM manual transmissions. This fluid has excellent lubrication properties that prevent breakdown over time and reduce friction to minimize transmission wear. This synchromesh transmission fluid is for use only in New Venture NV1500 manual transmissions. See service manual for GM vehicle application.

Review: Works better than OEM in 3G TL MT - I have owned two third generation Acura TLs with 6 speed manual transmissions at this point. I bought one at 129k miles and the other at 84k miles, with the higher mileage TL being a 2005 base and the lower mileage one being a 2008 Type-S. The 2005 had issues going into third gear pretty often (i.e. every few shifts). It would feel almost like it went in, but then would pop out as soon as you released the clutch; I was not skip shifting and have never had a similar issue in any other vehicle over hundreds of thousands of miles of driving other manual transmissions, including mostly Subarus, Isuzus, and BMWs as well as motorcycle and dirtbike transmissions. The 2008 had the same issue, but only once every few dozen shifts and it could be avoided completely by preloading 3rd gear a bit and shifting really slowly. On both vehicles, I changed the transmission fluid to OEM honda fluid and drove for about 500 miles and didn't notice any improvement. I then changed both vehicles over to this stuff and they both felt better right away and felt even better after 100-200 miles. Neither has had any issue whatsoever going into third after the fluid change to this stuff. I have about 12k miles on the 2005 base with no degradation or return of the issue, but only a few hundred miles on the 2008 Type-S. I'll report back if there is any long-term harm in using this fluid on the 3G TL platform, but for now I'm enjoying the improvement in shift quality.
Review: A must for a manual honda - If you own a 90s Honda this is a must. I experienced significantly better shifting immediately after I replaced the transmission oil. It gets better the more you drive it.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Should I flush my engine oil before switching from conventional to synthetic oil or vice versa?**
A: No, it is not necessary to flush your engine when switching between motor oils. Typically, conducting a routine oil change and replacing the conventional oil with a synthetic motor oil will not require any additional maintenance.

**Q: Do I need a special oil filter for a synthetic oil?**
A: No, synthetic motor oil does not require you use a special filter. Oil filters are used based on vehicle specifications. Refer to your vehicle Owner’s Manual for guidance on what type of oil filter to use.

**Q: Is there a way to tell if my engine oil needs to be changed or is running low?**
A: Yes, if equipped, your vehicle’s oil life monitoring system will inform you when your motor oil needs to be changed. Refer to your vehicle Owner’s Manual for more specific guidelines.

**Q: Does my transmission fluid need to be changed as regularly as my oil?**
A: No, typically, transmission fluid lasts much longer than most engine oils. Refer to your vehicle Owner’s Manual to identify how often and when your transmission fluid should be changed. Severe usage and regular usage descriptions are provided.

**Q: Is there a difference between power steering fluid and transmission fluid?**
A: Yes, there is a difference. There are many types of transmission fluid. GM Genuine Parts and ACDelco recommend referring to your vehicle Owner’s Manual for fluid recommendations for all vehicle systems.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 2000 VW Jetta TDI 02j trans- pure witchcraft
*by A***N on May 16, 2015*

2000 VW Jetta TDI GLS 02J Trans 157,000 miles (pretty sure factory fill or maybe one change during previous ownership) Excellent fluid that is actually thicker than VW's version of 75W-90. G070 (VW newest revision of MTF) has a cSt of about 6.4 with this stuff at around 9.0. Honda and Acura owners swear by this stuff with a majority of TDICLUB members agreeing on how good it is. The price on Amazon is unbeatable for me. $27/quart at the GM Dealership? No thank you. I actually ran the G070 for a little while and had nothing but issues in traffic. I live in Hawaii and the gearbox would get awfully hot when sitting in traffic. When it was getting hot I was getting shifting issues, 1st gear was almost locked out during a 3 hour stint of traffic! Once I refilled with this stuff I was blown away. The G070 was good when the trans was cold and mediocre when warmed up, but this stuff… I took a quick test drive and was shocked, it shifted like butter when cold. I didn’t think it was going to get any better as the G070 did okay when cold. Once the trans was warmed up, all issues were resolved. No more lock outs, no more grinding and no notchy shifts. I have put about 600 miles on this stuff and it is fantastic. I plan on changing every year or two as I do with all manual trans cars so we will see how it does in the long run but for now I can slam gears with no grinding at all. Not that I slam gears a lot but it is kind of a test to see how well it is working with the synchronizers. One last note, There is a guy on the TDICLUB that swears by this stuff and has over 350,000 miles worth of transmission wear on synchromesh, he had no ill effects running it and never had carrier bearing issues or excessive gear lash as some people would think due to not running a 75W-90 GL4 Gear oil. I assure you though, VW doesn’t use anything close to 75W-90 with their gear oil (thinner than the Pennzoil as well) and the transmissions still last a very long time using VW’s thin fluid. Conclusion, must buy for me. If you are on the fence about trying it, do some research and see if anyone has run it before on your particular make and model. What works for me may not work for you or your vehicle. Good luck!
