The close up the cabinet, the mattress folds up easily and the frame also slides easily into itself so the room maintains an open area when not in use. Additionally within the cabinet on top of the folded mattress, there is space to store about 4 pillows. “But that’s not all!” The drawers at the bottom are functional and spacious. I was able to store the comforter and bed linens so everything is self-contained.I have not slept on the mattress, but according to our guests, the mattress is very firm, actually a little too firm for them so we just purchased a softer foam mattress pad and put it right over the top. They said it was perfect.The only suggestion I could make about the design of this is that the top panel doesn’t flip up so there a pretty good chance guests will hit their head if they forget to skooch out and then sit up.I’m a 5’ nothing (never workout) woman in her late 50’s and was able to take all the pieces out of the box and put the panels together on my own. I suggest an electric or battery-operated screwdriver. It saved me a ton of time. I did needed my husband’s assistance to connect the base for the mattress, put the top onto the foundation, and to attach the doors. The directions are very clear with descriptions and images.The craftsmanship is superb! Everything aligned properly, they provided a few extra pieces of hardware - just in case, and the color is a rich finish. Friends couldn’t believe we purchased it on Amazon and that I put most of it together on my own!I was a bit nervous ordering such a large item through Amazon, but ordered it anyway because of their return policy. The company called me to confirm my order before shipping and gave me their phone number in case I had any questions, which put my mind at ease straightaway. They also called to confirm I had received it after delivery. But we needed a murphy chest bed. When going to Amazon and searched murphy beds I saw the item that I purchased with my fingers crossed. The chest had to be assembled but following the instructions it was easy. I had questions about delivery and the manufacturer answered all my questions and was extremely helpful. Assembled it looks even nicer than the picture on line, It is very solid and when assembled weighs about 300 lbs. It comes on a palette in three separate boxes, all where wrapped in plastic.
