The packaging was good, and they came two days ahead of the projected date.As for the headphones, I'm very pleased with them. They are probably the most comfortable headphones I've ever used. Literally like putting two pillows to my head that play music. The sound quality is good, as expected. I don't know about anyone else, but I don't find the bass boost to be interfering with my music at all. Just to be clear, I have used them to listen to mostly rock, metal, and electronic music and for an EQ, the "Rock" setting works just fine (these headphones are GREAT for listening to dubstep, just thought I'd mention.) I'm not a fan of rap music, but I imagine they would be great for that as well. The cable isn't ridiculously long, nor is it very short. It's about the length of a normal pair of earbuds, and it's a flat cable so there isn't much worry about the cable getting tangled. They're made of a plastic material but seem to be quite durable, so if you're the type to give them a bit of wear-and-tear, I would think that they would hold up well. I read a review on here saying that sound can be leaked from the bass holes on the outside of the headphones, however I have found that if you don't blast your iPod at full volume, you barely hear any leakage at all. The sounds of a subway, for example would suffice at covering up this little bit of leakage. They may not be noise canceling either but they do do a decent job of blocking outside noise. As most people have mentioned, yes, they are quite large and awkward-looking. But honestly they're just so comfortable that I personally wouldn't care at all wearing them in public. Your ears may get warm after, say, an hour of use but if you take them off for a few minutes, it's all gone.Overall, definitely worth the $34 and the 5 stars. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars Sony MDR-XB300 *by S***N on Reviewed in the United States on July 26, 2011* What more could anyone ask for out of a $30 pair of headphones? Personally, I find them to be extremely comfortable to wear; the product lacks padding on the headband but its lightness makes up for this flaw. Build quality is what one would expect for the price. All plastic design, albeit a sturdy and functional one at that. I've only owned these headphones for 2 months so I can't comment on how long they will last you, but I'm confident they'll live for a long time. On to the most important and most touchy subject: sound quality. I'm a seventeen year old who listens to a huge variety of music, ranging all the way from classical to trip-hop, and I've found that with a bit of EQ tweaking, these perform well for most genres. I'm currently listening to Clint Mansell's "The Last Man", and the string section is very well defined and HEAVY. The bass in these is powerful, and if your not looking for bass-intensive headphones, stay away from the sony mdr-xb series. That being said, the bass almost never muddies the highs or mids--sony's main accomplishment with this product. The bass is powerful and precise. Onto the negatives. These "closed" headphones bleed a lot of sound. If you're riding on a bus or plane, the ambient sound will help you out, but in a fairly quiet room everyone will be hearing what you're hearing. Second, I would have liked these to come with a carrying case of some sorts given that they do not fold up... Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase, I love the tangle free flat-wires (the wire has never once tangled on me), the great sound and the comfort these headphones provide. So if you're looking for an affordable pair of quality headphones, look no further. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Deal of the Sony XB series! *by D***Z on Reviewed in the United States on April 7, 2011* I purchased these headphones about a year ago (May of last year I believe) and hadn't given much thought to publishing a review of them until I recently also purchased the Sony MDR XB500 headphones, the slightly older brother of the series. The remaining pair of cans, the XB 700s I don't plan on purchasing at this point. Between the $30 (and change) XB300s and the $50 (and change)  Sony MDR-XB500 40mm XB Diaphragm Driver Extra Bass Headphones , I have to risk DJ and Beatmaker sacrilege and say that sometimes less bass is more.Let me say that neither the  Sony MDR-XB300 30mm XB Diaphragm Driver Extra Bass Headphones  or the  Sony MDR-XB500 40mm XB Diaphragm Driver Extra Bass Headphones  are reference monitor (or studio mixing) quality headphones. I would hesitate to even recommend them for serious DJing in a situation where you need to hear midranges well. The biggest selling factor of both models is the Extra Bass, and the leather (or at least pleather) padded cups and comfort. In terms of comfort both are very comfortable, but I would rate the XB 300s a little more comfortable because the ear is fully covered, and on the XB500s the leather padding only fits around the outside of your ear. Out of the two models that I own, I rate the XB300s a little higher because they are: 1) more affordable (read cheaper) 2) have the extended bass without the muddiness (sometimes too much low end on the XB500s) 3) smaller and more portable. I know other reviewers have noted that if you fix your EQ settings on your Ipod, etc, you can get a more accurate sound, which is true, but for me personally as someone who engages in DJing and music production (see my other reviews), I tend to want a little extra bass, but I also don't want to change my EQ settings and get an inaccurate sound (something that sounds great in the headphones but like crap in your car, etc).
