The hamon is too symmetrical to be done by hand, but it still looks very nice. There is no bo-hi. It should also be noted that the tsukamaki allows for the removal of the mekugi, which is quite unusual for a katana priced this low (that's a compliment!). The saya fits quite nicely, too. It's not difficult to remove but stays in place even with a good swing. The sageo is also very nice, even better than I've seen on some katana for over double the price. My ONLY complaint is the writing on the saya, but hey -- it was clearly shown in the picture and mentioned in the listing. I would have liked to see an option to get just a plain saya, though. Would I recommend it? When I got the sword I was surprised to see how well it was put together. All the fitting are securely fashioned to the handle the blade gaurd is nice and tight and the lettering of the sheath is on point as well. Blade came rust free and sharp not razor sharp but will stand up to formidable slashes.I was able to have them send me a second sheath unfortunately though it doesn't fit this sword but was able to use it to replace a sheath in my collection that was damaged.
