It's doing an excellent job of holding my laptop in a fixed position on my desk at a height that works great for my second monitor and keyboard. I feared the stand would be flimsy or not hold the weight of my laptop but it's been great and I've not had any issues. Yes, the mechanisms are a bit stiff when you are first adjusting the stand to the exact desired height, but they need to be this stiff in order to hold heavy laptops like mine. It has a cut out in the bottom which keeps the heat from building up on the laptop and that's quite sufficient. I'd tried a cheaper, plastic stand with a fan made by another manufacturer but it didn't adjust well, the fan was noisy and the plastic was flimsy.
