I add them as an additional supplement (mildest amounts), and my plants seem to be growing faster and greener than in the past (wishful thinking or placebo effect?) Anyway, you get a decent amount of fluid to put in a lot of gallons of water before you will use them up. The aerogarden supplements cost a lot more, and I don't think they work any better.
