We immediately spotted an otter, cormorants and pelicans. We compared views with her binoculars, and the spotting scope was much stronger. But the back lens cover removal took the whole thing apart. I screwed it back in and it worked but you know that you can never use this in any inclement weather and going out into the cold might be a problem. I had a scope that you had to cover in plastic in the rain and if it fogged up you had to put it on a heater until it dried it out. I believe that it is a decent spotting scope for the price so to compare it to much more expensive scopes would not be fair. To be honest, I think the more expensive spotting scopes are worth it if you can afford it and intend to use it all the time. I got this so that I can mount my phone to it and take pictures of animals in the back yard. I have not gotten to that yet but see no reason why it would not work. So good price, you have to be careful with it or I think you could turn it into a piece of junk.
