The GyroTwister Xbeam is the training device that's addictive - in a good way: Recent studies from Germany show that training with the GyroTwister significantly improved gripping strength. It also exercises the forearms, upper arms and the wrists in a fun and effective way. The GyroTwister does not work like other training equipment, with fixed weights, or springs, but by using the centrifugal force principle. Therefore, the force of GyroTwister is variable and always adapts to the user's fitness level. The generated centrifugal force at 10,000 rpm corresponds to 15 (.) kg. How does the Gyrotwister work? Imagine you´re holding a glass of ice cubes in your palm and you shake the ice around the inside wall of your glass The GyroTwister works without batteries. It is brought up to speed by the user using pure muscle power. Inside the unit there is a rotor weighing approximately 200g; it is the heart of the GyroTwister. Once this is set in motion, momentum is created around the axis. Every cyclist is familiar with this kind of angular momentum. If you sit on a stationary bike, you'll fall over. The faster you go, the more stable it becomes. More force must be applied for the steering movement as the speed increases. Similarly, the rotor builds a stability inside the GyroTwister as a result the moment of inertia (the flywheel is about 2 cm away from the axis), and causes the rotational speed. The user now tries to tip the rotor and thus the rotational axis sideways and exerts a torque on the rotor. The gyroscope reacts to this with a counter-movement, and attempts to straighten itself up again. This force is called "precession". The counter-movement is much stronger than one might suspect at first glance. The principle of precession should be familiar to anyone who has ever rolled a car or bicycle tires on the road. First it runs straight, then tilts away to the left or right and then straightens up again, and continues to wobble along for a few more rotations. In contrast to the tyre, which is rolled along the road, the rotor is located within a circular guide in the GyroTwister. It cannot become fully upright, its precession is channelled by how it is controlled. The only "way out" for the rotor, therefore, is to "roll away" within the guide, thereby increasing the speed of the rotor. In the meantime, however, the user has tilted the housing by a further quarter of a turn and the rotor precesses on. This process continues constantly. The energy that is exerted by the user is converted into faster rotations of the rotor. It is possible to accelerate the rotor up to 10,000 revolutions per minute, causing centrifugal forces around the rotor which equal up to 75 times the inherent weight of the rotor, or 15 (?) kg. When the rotor is no longer moved by the user, the stored rotational energy is re-consumed by friction. Naturally, each GyroTwister is delivered with a GyroGrip band.
