There are 4 very light metal pieces on each corner to hold the mat down. You can also take the metal pieces off if you want (undo the stitches to take them out). The mat itself is on the larger size (a full sized prayer mat) but folds thinly and the pouch/bag is small enough to fit into a small purse or clutch. Its basically palm sized. The fabric is very good quality, water resistant and easy to clean, strong/sturdy but thin (so if you're using it on a hard surface your knees and forehead will hurt).
