Review: Perfect grass alternative - Love this stuff. 5b zone, horrible new construction “soil.” Couldn’t get grass to grow, especially with a slightly sloped yard. Pictures are the same section of lawn exactly two years apart. I seeded with the mini clover last summer and had great results. Watered it a couple times a day for about a month then down to once a day then let the rain take over. Came back to life in the spring. It greens up the grass that’s managed to survive and holds up well to one dog and a kid. We usually mow once a week due to ticks. But we’ve let it go up to three weeks and the clover sits at about 5inches with the grass flopping over on it.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: What are the differences between micro clover and min clover?**
A: Several of these answers are NOT true whatsoever.  Miniclover is NOT rebagged white dutch.  All white clovers are Trifolium repens just as white dutch is.  Miniclover is one of a few different varieties of Trifolium repens just as Microclover is.  Euromic is the most common variety of Miniclover and is a registered "true" small leaved clover.  Microclover is typically Pipolina.  The only answers above which are correct are you can plant them side by side and you can't tell the difference and Microclover is much more expensive!

**Q: Do you have to remove the existing lawn grass before applying the seed?  If not, how long will it take to "take over" the existing lawn?**
A: Miniclover will not "take over" grass and is not designed for that purpose.  It grows with grass to add nitrogen to the soil and helps suppress weeds.

**Q: When should this mini clover be planted?  I live in Missouri.**
A: Very Important, do not plant until danger of morning frosts are over. In Missouri that is late April, once ground temperatures are above 50'F. A late spring frost likely will not affect young clover plants exceptionally unless it is over several hours. Covering them in anticipation is the usual precaution if forecast. They are usually hardy to 40 degrees.

**Q: How well does this stand up to dogs?  I have 3 (one's large and sends lawn chunks flying when he takes off running)?**
A: The best way to ensure continued coverage is the over seed after too much roughhousing. Dogs will tearup roots so occasional overseeding will ensure new grow takes over bared places. It will eventually get thick enough that even dogs will not destroy it unless they cover leaves for too long by lying on it during hot days of summer. Water as indicated by standing leaves. Wilt or fungus can affect it, so use nitrogen suppliment in fall with sufficient water to not burn. Lasts about three years if well maintained. Over seed recommended every 2 years, because of diversity and limited flowering. Some might survive a cold winter, but even as far south as Oklahoma it is not that hardy.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Has Done Well but Unsure It's Really Micro

I've purchased 25 pounds of this over the past two years. Not entirely sure it's really "micro"clover at full maturity. It is currently very flowered even though it's cut at the lowest setting on our mower. I did expect flowering but this is described as having less than typical white clover and it seems to actually have more flowering. I'm just not convinced this isn't just regular white Dutch clover so I'm unsure I'll continue purchasing this expensive seed. I'm about to spread some white Dutch clover seed in weedy areas and will compare. However, it does germinate well. I suggest soaking the seeds in water for at least a day before spreading them. Our yard has very poor, rocky soil as it was previously a gravel pit and this has taken the best over various grasses I tried growing in past years. It is much more green than the sad grass we have - especially as summer drought hits. It actually been staying evergreen during winter here in west Michigan. One other great thing is that apparently grubs don't like to eat the roots of clover compared to grass and we definitely have grubs.
