## Questions & Answers

**Q: is it possible to purchase only 3 because thats all i need?**
A: I do not have a box that will securely fit 3

**Q: In your picture posted for the mature version of the tree how many of your container trees would it take to achieve same look?**
A: One. Crape myrtles will naturally grow into a multi-trunk tree or bush.

**Q: Would they be good to plant in chicago? 60626 zip code**
A: In colder climates, you will need to protect for winter.
It's not a bad idea to "wrap" your crape myrtle this first winter.
Keep in mind that crape myrtles – like all new trees and shrubs – are at their most winter-vulnerable in the early years while their roots are establishing.
Winter barriers should go the whole way up the plant – not just around the base – in order to protect the branches as well as the root zone.
Burlap is a good material because it "breathes" better than solid coverings. You can also buy commercial tree wraps.
Either way, keep the wrap back a few inches from touching the branches. Hammer three stakes around the crape myrtle and wrap the burlap around those. Some people then stuff the little "burlap tent" with leaves for extra warmth over winter.
Plastic is a bad idea. For starters, the branches don't need light when they're dormant and bare over winter. But more importantly, heat trapped by the plastic on warm days can lead to plant damage, including bark splits and encouraging buds to come out too soon in spring (resulting in late frost damage).
Mulch around the base of the crape myrtle is a good idea. Three inches is fine and keep it back away from the bark by a few inches.
I should mention one thing that sometimes happens with crape myrtles colder growing zones – in cold winters, the top growth dies back even though the roots are alive. New shoots eventually emerge from the roots.
So if you find what looks to be a dead tree next spring, don't dig it. Wait at least until June to see if new shoots emerge. Even when everything's fine, crape myrtles are always one of the last plants to leaf out, usually in May.

**Q: Will it survive in northern Iowa?**
A: Not sure. 3 out 4 of mine have survived the hot SoCal summer. FYI they are very small 1 is really thriving the other two are still under 12in.

## Customer Reviews

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Best customer service!
*by M***K on August 12, 2023*

I bought a 4 pack of these purple crapes. 2 months into summer, one looked very tested compared to its 3 sibling trees. While I read how crispy they could be w shipping, this one was very crisp. I emailed the company. A very polite and professional response. I was asked to just try a scratch test on the tree to see if there was green under the thin bark. It there was no green, they would ship a new one out the same day. I did a scratch test and while it looked green and we said we would give it a try, the company took a look at our picture and sent a replacement without hesitation. The new one came today and looks healthy like the 3 others. They all now will be growing at the same start rate and will hopefully reach maturity at the same time in a few years. These trees were shipped from Texas and with the excessive heat, business is a challenge with shipping. Excellent customer service. Quality definitely mattered to them with our purchase.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ All are blooming in 3 months!
*by R***G on June 13, 2023*

Update after 3 months:I replanted them into larger pots rightaway. 1 month later when the weather got warmer I found small white insects on them. But that's pretty normal in Summer months. I took care of them by spraying with garlic and neem water twice. Then thrilled to see buds start to show in late July, and then in full bloom in late August. Don't know why they have 2 different colors on the same tree, even in the same flower cluster. Imagine how they look when they get bigger........Update April, 6th , 2024They lost all their leaves, became dormant for almost 4 months here in Southern California and I was getting worried. Then buds started to appear a month ago on all 4. Today they're covered with new leaves again. For those who buy these in Winter: you may receive young trees that look like dead twigs. Yet they're likely very much alive.

### ⭐ Bores
*by S***. on October 22, 2016*

I was pretty excites anout my Crapes when I got them. However my sister pointed out they have Bores. The owner may not even know his trees have insects...Bores and Aphids. How can you ship out state without Dept of Agricultural inspection? The white spot and cob web looking strings are Bores. Disappointed.
