The REASON most car installers push this ideal is to upsell people who don't know better. They overcharge you for the wire and then charge you the hourly fee's to install it. Its purely about making money. Almost every car manufacturer wires their car with 18 gauge. This means your standard OEM speaker system is using 18 gauge wire. I myself decided to install a pioneer amp in my 2015 Mitsubishi Mirage. This amp was going to be pushing 150 watts to all 4 corners of my car in a 2ohm load. I had wired my driver front and driver rear speakers together into a 2ohm load, same with passenger front and rear. I then used 18 gauge from the amp outputs, up the center console, into the factory harness behind the radio. With13.4v with car running, and tuned for 150w using volt-meter, reading 11.18 amps at the amp! Then I went to the longest run possible, which means the passenger rear speaker. I was reading 11.02 amps.... I lost 0.16 amps. That's 2.144 watts of loss..... a 1.3% loss..... I HIGHLY DOUBT you will be able to tell the difference between 150w and 148w of power through typical aftermarket door speakers. The loss in power isn't audibly noticeable to any human. So I will say, if I can run 150w through, ending up with 148w at the the other end of the longest run of wire, then you can get away with a lot.... You can test this yourself. Simply get a volt-meter and set it to AC load. This is 20 feet of wire, so push however many watts from an amp through it. Measure at the amp output and then again at the other end of the 20 feet of wire. Use a test tone. Generally 1khz for highs and 40hz for lows (but if its a door speaker, test 1khz). See what power you get. I doubt you lose anything at your rated power. As another said, they push 90 watts through theirs no problem. 5star car audio videos online. They used stinger speedwire running from center console, down to passenger front seat (under it) for signal into the amp, and then back up to the radio for output going into factory harness to each door speaker, in a ford SUV. And they are pushing mad power guaranteed. The amp they used will do 125w per speaker all day. So all 4 corners with 125w output. Easy. So I am running 150w and they are running 125w. Double proof. GRANTED, we both mounted our amps under the front seats keeping the wire run as short as possible, its not like we mounted the amp in the trunk using up all 20 feet.... but still. I doubt you will use that much either. Do it smart, and this is perfect. **Q: What is the color?** A: It is a dark blue cover slip over the wires.
