HOWEVER I have discontinued to use mine because it makes a nice landing spot for squirrels and it retains water from rain so that the seeds in the lower part of the feeder begin to sprout. I bought the tray to accommodate larger birds (cardinals, etc) because the posts were too short. I solved the problem by purchasing 1/4" aluminum rods at the hardware store and cut them to 10" making a 3" post on each side. **Q: Do I need to add a tray at bottom of this feeder?** A: Hello - No tray is needed at the bottom of this feeder or wingnut. There is an open threaded hole to pole mount this feeder or add a tray however they way it is designed the base of the tube feeder features a baffle that does not allow the seed to drop through the threaded hole. Thank you. **Q: what is the size of this feeder around and length?Amazon says it’s 4” diameter but Droll Yankees website says 7”** A: The plastic tube of the Droll Yankees B7F is 3 1/2 inches in diameter and 20 inches tall. The 7 x 7 x 24 inches that is listed on the Droll Yankees site refers to the overall dimensions of the unit including perches and hanger wire. Essentially, that is the size of the shipping box. **Q: Are the perches part of the seed ports, or are they separate?** A: They are part of the seed ports.
