They confuse the issue by calling all the hardware "screws" when there are screws and bolts with nuts and there are extras of each. After studying the photos, though, it is easy to put together.The screws (not the bolts with nuts) are used to connect the front cross piece to the sides using the lowest holes. The bolts and nuts then connect at the four corners of the footrest at the level you want it to be, 5", 7" or 9" high. All the heads of the screw and bolts have the heads to the outside which is where the holes are inset and so the heads will be flush with the wood. A piece that is fixed to one side is broken from the other side and there is a chip in the wood. We are just going to glue it back on and hope it works. I don't want to go through the trouble of returning it. Not sure how well it will work, but since it arrived damaged, it gets one star. Directions are scare but easy enough to figure out really. We haven’t had the need to adjust it. With that said, it’s a pain to adjust.... be careful not to strip to screws because you basically need to take it apart to adjust it.
