I mounted my fan in a distribution box or plenum which is ducted to to 2 other boxes, one at each of the roof vents. It works well for me. The solar panel is mounted on an exterior wall and the cable is run up through the soffit and eves. There is plenty of cable. The fan runs pretty well off solar alone, when there is good sun. When there isn't enough sun regular electric power makes up the difference. When there is no sun it runs completely on regular electric power. If there is anything I wish was different it would be a larger, more powerful solar panel. The solar panel is also high quality and the mount is also heavy duty. You can't go wrong with this fan! It just quit. I tried the regular plug, thinking maybe it was the panel, but that didn’t help. It appears to be the motor. I noted other similar reviews when I purchased it, but the majority were positive, so I bought it. Now, it’ll take 60 days to get refunded, I have to reconfigure my greenhouse gable to fit some other fan, and they don’t even want to refund my tax. Are you kidding me? Don’t bother with this fan.
