Even if you buy it from a store or here. Tetra just never did a seal for this product! **Q: Does this remove ammonia? I just put in safe start.** A: Not directly... Safe Start introduces Nitrifying bacteria into your tank environment... Turn off uv sterilization when adding. The bacteria convert ammonia to nitrite and other bacteria convert nitrite to nitrate. All are toxic to fish to some degree... Ammonia being the worst and becomes deadly at about 8 parts per million (it burns the gill membranes)... nitrite at about 40-80 ppm and nitrate at about 160ppm... Water changes remove the nitrate... Seachem Prime is excellent for detoxifying all three and for removing heavy metals from your tap water in addition to dechlorinating... But SeaChem Prime does not remove it either... It binds the toxic molecules thereby making the water "safe" for fish and giving the bacteria colonies a longer amount of time to break down the toxins....Overcrowding your tanks is the major source of excess ammonia... **Q: Does this expire?** A: Yes, chemicals do expire and each one has an expiration date stamped on the bottom of the bottle. Shelf life is three years. **Q: does aquasafe plus conditioner clear new tank with added fijji pink sand cloudiness? If not what does?** A: You want an anti-flocculant such as Tetra Water Clarifier or SeaChem Clarify. It makes all the little pieces stick together making them bigger pieces and easier for your filter to catch It'll look worse before it gets better but will clear faster than just waiting.
