Its loaded with so many features. Its easy to setup. The speaker sound is very clear. I really like the GPS DSC option. There are a few videos online that will help you learn more abut HX890. It feels very well made and good in the hand. One thing it lacks is a way to charge without the cradle. I like the fact it comes with a 12v adapter for the boat but you still need to bring the charging cradle. I'm going to have to order another one and keep it on the boat. I have been using the Duracell copper clad alkaline batteries and the Duracell Quantum AAA Alkaline Batteries. Both are long lasting, All-Purpose AAA batteries for use in the Standard Horizon HX890 handheld marine radio. I have not seen much of a difference between battery types. **Q: I already have a matrix gx3000s in my boat with my mmsi in it, do i still need to put my mmsi into my new hx890 ?** A: If you plan on using it on the boat it is a good idea to put the mmsi into the radio. And heaven forbid if you ever need to abandon your boat this is the perfect radio to take with you. User's manual provides basics but it doesn't tell you the "why". This size is a great entry model for a serious fisherman. I have the motorguide trolling motor and 3D structure scan added to it.
