I puchased a set of rechargable lithium batteries to go with this so that I can get maximum life (much more than with the AAA batteries in the included carrier). There is a little sleeve included that goes around the lithium battery to make it fit in the same space. The beam focuses from narrow spot to diffuse, like most other flashlights in this category. It is also water resistant. I'd say this is a solid option for the money.
