We are very familiar with turkish darbuka because its in my husbands culture. This drum is slightly wider on the body and the head than a darbuka so more like a sombaty. its very light and you dont have to worry about it being damaged or affected by humidity and rain. I like the clear head too. Sounds pretty good for what I need it for. Just wish it had a rubber ring on the bottom to keep it from getting chipped. Easy to clean, looks cool with battery operated string lights inside, & has a good sound. Can be tuned with a drum key that comes with it. This drum is perfect for those venues and much more. I haven't had a chance to play the drum "wet" yet (you can actually put water inside the drum to create "bended" tones!) but it sounds terrific as a regular darbuka.
