Great alternative to a Samsung Galaxy S3 mini

*by W***Y on Reviewed in the United States on March 2, 2015*

Let me point out a few good points as well as quirks that this phone has. The only thing I can't comment on is the WiFi Hotspot feature. According to the specs you can use this phone as a portable WiFi router. I can't test this because I don't have a data plan.Pros. Very little bloatware! All I see is stock Android apps like the basic calendar, clock ect. A few standard Google apps like Play store G mail, Google Voice and Maps. Holy crap! Did Hell just freeze over? Never thought I'd see the day when a computer like device didn't come weighed down with some useless over rated crap not many people will use. Yeah I'm looking at you Samsung and Microsoft!Great price! Especially for an unlocked dual SIM card phone . Most cost more.Unlocked . Will work on most carriers like AT&T and T Mobile.Build quality is pretty decent . I compared this phone to my old Samsung Galaxy Y ( Hello Kitty edition) The plastic casing and touch screen feel very similar. Lol I'm not brave enough to soak it in hot water or smash it with a hammer.Size. Small enough to fit into a man's shirt pocket or a lady's wallet.3G compatible . I have AT&T GoPhone plan. So far I have no issues getting a 3G signal in my area. 3 to 4 bars.WiFi compatable . Works well with my home internet. Also works great with the commercial grade internet service at work. This phone can even detect my neighbors routers across the street. Even the neighbors about 5 doors down.Bluetooth capable. This phone had no trouble pairing up with my Samsung Galaxy tab 4. I tested it by sending over a picture and it didn't take long to download. Please keep in mind that there are a lot of stuff around you that can affect your cell and wifi service. Strong radio signals from CB radios and walk talkies, metal, live plants, area density ect. Don't worry this is pretty much normal for phones tablets and computers .GPS . The GPS location and navigation are quite accurate . No trouble detecting my location. I compared this phone's GPS to my tablet's and the results were the same. Imputed a quarry to The Fabulous Fox Theater in St.Louis . Within moments I was staring at directions on how to get there from my home. I know the way by heart, so I was pleased with the accuracy.Storage memory can be up graded via micro SD card. I'm afraid that this a MUST HAVE. If you plan on downloading apps music, pics ect. This phone only has about 1 gig of on board storage memory. Just pop in a micro SD card and your good. It will take up to 32 gig. Most apps and games that you get off the Play Store can be moved to the SD card.Touch screen is responsive . I don't have much trouble with it. Screens change at just a flick. I know others have complained about the keyboard but in my case I'm not very good at typing. I always have to double check everything. If you are having trouble with the touch screen, make sure it and your hands are clean. A stylus will also help.Radio. This phone has a real radio in it. It's not just an app. Like a song? Well there's an option to record and save it! Most of my favorite radio stations come in loud and clear. My only complaint is the radio only works if the headphones/ear buds are plugged in. But I suppose that's good if you're on public transportation or at a doctors office . Let's say the cord gets snagged and the plug pops out. The radio will automatically shut off. You won't make everyone around you mad.Call quality is pretty good since I can get 3g. I called my voice mail and I was able to hear all of the auto robot prompts. The text messenger works decently, You can even customize it with a background of your choice. Just a little warning if you use some of emoji/emoticons that come with the app the recipient may not be able to read your text. I sent a text with a smiley face and friend couldn't read the message. To him it was blank.Sound quality is pretty good. Not at half volume and the ring and power on sound is loud. The speaker only starts to sound tinny if the volume is at MAX. Just keep it dialed down a notch or 2 and it's near perfect. The sound on the headphones/ear buds is even bettter. The 3.5mm jack is pretty snug and conveniently located at the top on the right.I tried the ear buds that came with the phone and they seem to work pretty well. I'll definitely keep them as spares. The phone came with screen protector already on it.The display is very nice. I don't even have it to 50% and yet I can still see what's on the screen from different angles. Might have set the screen bright higher in total darkness. Not so sure about full sun. I will have to wait until it's warmer because at the time I'm writing this review it's still winter kinda over cast.Charging and battery life. It charges pretty fast in my opinion. It takes about 2 hours to fill up the battery. As for battery life that depends on you. According to specs the battery will last 6 hours. Under normal use that should get you through the day without the charger or a power pack. Im writing this review on a Sunday. 3-1-2015 at 5:15 pm. The phone has been off the charger since Saturday night. The battery still has about 94% of enegery left. I only had it on for a few minutes, just so I can try out the Blutooth and GPS features. I forgot to test them earlier. You can squeeze out more juice by turning it off when not in use. Turn off Blutooth when not in use. You guys get the hint. Heavy-duty users look elsewhere.Does not overheat. The first time I charged it, I kept checking the device, the usb cable and the plug. All of them remained cool to the touch. The microphone is pretty good. The Google Voice app was able "hear" and "understand" what I asked it. I said "kitsune". In Japanese it means fox. I already knew that but I wanted to see how well the microphone picked up my voice. Within seconds Google Voice pulled up a Wikipedia article stating that kitsune was the Japanese word for fox as well as pics and videos of foxes.Video recording and play back. It's pretty decent. YouTube videos play good. As for video recording it's just OK. The sound is good but image quality is a bit off. The colors look a bit washed out to me.Update 4-8-15 This phone was able to connect to my HP laptop via USB. Not only did the battery get charged I was able to transfer a dozen CDs worth of music and cover art directly to the SD card. I had no issues at all with it. All you have to do is turn on USB debugger mode and plug the USB cable in. Your computer should detect the phone and automatically make drivers for it. I have Windows so I don't know how this would work out on Macs. Not really cons but some things kinda fall short. REMEMBER this is an entry level smartphone so some corners had to be cut.The front and rear cameras are not the best. Front 2 mega pixels. Back 5 mega pixels. I tried them both out in various lighting conditions. They are ok. Even with the LED flash and set to "night mode" the back camera could barely capture I photo I took in a dark room. I took a few pics of my cat Mingming with low light and full light and most them turned out nice. I took a few selfie with the front camera but no matter what lighting, setting or filter I used, the colors were always a bit off.Processor and RAM. Again Heavy-duty users look elsewhere. This phone has an unkown dual core processor with about half a gig of RAM . But for my needs it suits me just fine. The micro usb plug doesn't slide into the phone all the way. The might be an issue for some.Edit: I was able to find a case... well sorta. I bought a case made for the Samsung Galaxy S 3 mini i890. I had to customize it by taking off the plastic grip. Then I used double sided mounting tape to secure the phone. This phone is about 1 mm wider than the S3 mini. Other wise all the ports and buttons are in the same position as Samsung ' s phone.

Great Phone the M stand for Mini

This phone was a gift and my first time every using a Smart Phone. I am pleased with it as a cell phone. It is basic. It has all the bells and whistles of all the other cell phones on the market, but it acts like a Tablet and app offerings are limited, which is fine, i am not a big user of apps on a phone. I still use a computer. The phone has a HUGE assortment of ring tones and notification sounds. It is very sensitive and does not remember settings so easy. I had to go back to audio settings numerous times to increase the volume. the radio function is great. It amazed me that the phone displays the stations call letters and the song playing. It will also let you record what you are listening to. On a sad note, the sound is tinny while in a call. The same is true for when the call is on speaker. If there is a lot of back noise, it is very hard to hear. The text pad is tiny, but i was extremely surprised that it recognized my key strokes, It was easier to text with the small keypad rather than turn the phone for an expanded view. Like I said the phone is light and i fear dropping it. I have large fingers. There is no way to adjust the size of the keyboard like many other cell phones, and the phone is VERY light. It does not feel like you are holding anything in your hand, so handling the phone is an adventure. I am trying so hard to not drop it. I would recommend a heavy case that can give the phone some weight. Like I said this is starter phone for me. I will be looking to purchase a larger, heavier phone. Otherwise, it serves the purpose. In conclusion, the phone is decent, If you are just interested in making calls and texting, then this is the phone for you. Enjoy!! :-)

I am a college student in my early 20s. This is my first smartphone. When I began looking for a phone to replace my old not-smart-phone, my requirements were these:1. Must be either Android or Apple, because I bank with Simple and their apps don't work for Windows or other operating systems2. Must have a relatively high-quality camera (I'm an art student and taking shots of paintings as they progress is very useful)3. Must be small enough to fit in my pocket4. Must have email capabilities5. Must be able to send and receive picture messages.6. Must work with my AT&T pay as you go plan. This phone met all of my requirements. Here are the only problems I have had so far:-The camera isn't iPhone quality, but it beats the 2mp of my previous one.-I still can't participate in group messages. I receive group messages as individual messages from each person participating, and when I send a message back, it is separate from a group message on the receiving phone. Since the messages aren't presented to me in a conversation format, it's really hard to follow group messages. However, this might be a problem with my AT&T plan rather than a problem with the phone.-It's a little tough to find a case for this since it's not a big-name phone. The Samsung Galaxy mini case seems to fit pretty closely, but the one I have is a little bit too small and halfway covers the camera lens. Here are the things I love about this phone:-It's small enough to fit in my pocket and you can pretty much guarantee that it will fit into a wristlet or a phone case/wallet thing (I bought a Sakroots wallet shortly after getting this phone and it fits perfectly)-It's easy to navigate-I use Gmail and other Google services frequently, and (since it's an Android), those features are super accessible on my phone-It looks super nice-I can insert a micro SD for external storage so I don't use up all of my phone's storage space. All in all, I think this was a great purchase. It was in my price range (under $70) and met all of my criteria. If you're looking for a first smartphone, I would get this. If you're accustomed to phones with high-quality cameras and you're not a fan of Google, I would steer clear.
