Roland Foods Black Scorzoni Summer Truffle Peelings, Specialty Imported Food, 7-Ounce Can

I had a recipe that called for Truffle peelings... I had no idea what I was going to get. Used these to make the most delicious deviled eggs! It elevated them to a gourmet's delight... worth every penny I spent!

I love truffles. Normally, they have a wonderful, subtle flavor that can turn risotto or even buttered pasta into an amazing experience to be remembered. But the contents of this can lack that entirely. Not a whiff, not even when you first open the can.I don’t know whether they began flavorless or if the canning ruined them, but other than the slight crunch around the edges, the contents of this can are basically indistinguishable from oily canned white mushroom slices. Except for the cost. If you love truffles, seriously save your money and just wait/save until you can get the real thing... and if you can’t wait, then truffle oil will do more to get you a temporary fix than these will.

With the anticipation of a child on Christmas morning I opened one of the two cans. I opened that can in amazement.... there was enough shaved truffles that for a moment I thought I was going to need to smoke a cigarette after opening the can. then I tasted one of the shaved pieces. To say that there was ZERO flavor would mean that there might be some flavor other than salt water. Completely devoid of any truffle flavor. A brutal waste of money from a brand that to date has done a really decent job with all of their other products. I would only recommend this product to politicians I don't like.

Bought this or a product similar to it in a small black can...it turned out to be totally tastless, apparently a counterfeit product, perhaps black olives.
