Oil painters:
This is an excellent “every now and then” item. It will clean and restore your brushes, even those with dried on oil / acrylic paints.DO NOT let it touch the ferrel. This stuff is so powerful it will literally melt the glue inside the ferrel.Let a brush with dried oil paint soak for 15-20, it cleans right out. Let acrylic soak for 30 mins.I don’t think I’d use it everyday because of the potential damage to the ferrel and the handles. But it can absolutely save a brush from the trash can!!

Save your brushes! Buy this Brush Cleaner!
This is by far the best brush cleaner for acrylic paints! I have only used it for acrylics so I cannot speak for how well it works on oils. I bought the big bottle this time! I am an art teacher and no matter how hard I try to teach my students to keep their brushes in the water there are always one or two students who forget. This brush cleaner has saved me so much money in brushes because if I did not have this cleaner I would have to throw away the brushes! I always let them soak in a small amount of the solvent and then I scrub them a little with a toothbrush. Then, I place the paint brushes in warm water with some Dawn liquid soap. Then I thoroughly rinse and reshape the bushes and lay them out to dry. Excellent product!

Great brush cleaner
This is a great brush cleaner. Sometimes when you forget to wash your brushes after you use them, this solution will dissolve the paint and clean up the bristles and the ferrules so that the paint brushes are ready for your next artistic adventure.

New formula works poorly!
I’ve used Winsor Newton ‘cleaner and restorer’ for 15+ years, in large volumes, and it worked great. The new formula has been reformulated by the manufacturer and is called ‘cleaner’ only. It works poorly. Fresh oil paint just doesn’t come off well and I’m ruining expensive brushes by not removing all the paint. Why did Winsor Newton take a great item and make it worse!?!?! Switched to Bristle Magic brush cleaner and reconditioner…which works exponentially better than the new Winsor Newton brush cleaner.

Great Product!
You can soak brushes for a short time (about 5 or 10 minutes) when done with painting and it will clean and restore your brushes. That is what I do as a matter of maintenance. I teach art at Senior Centers and I have had students that had paint dry up in the brush and with a prolonged soak, everything was restored. Works equally well with oils and acrylics.

Removes Acrylic Paint and Sealant from Resin Dolls, Cleans Airbrushes; Melts My Gloves!
This is not a free product review. I do recommend this product for removing paint and solvent based sealants from resin.I've been using Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer for several years. I like to buy this in the large 32 oz. bottle, which is a great value. This does a great job cleaning brushes, but I primarily use it to remove previous paint (faceups) jobs from my Asian Ball-Jointed Dolls (BJDs) which I paint and seal myself. I use Mr. Super Clear matte/flat to seal the resin followed by acrylic paint, watercolor pencils and chalk pastels, then seal over each layer of my work. Sometimes, I want to re-paint my dolls. Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer removes the sealant and all of my other products from the doll without doing any damage to the resin material. Nothing else works as well. Sometimes I also use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser for stubborn spots aided by a tooth brush for small creases. Usually a cosmetic cotton pad works well. The left over residue washes away easily with water and scent-free and dye free dish soap. After this treatment, my dolls are left as clean as if they were just removed from the mold by their artist/maker.I also love Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer to clean my airbrush parts when I break them down for internal cleaning. Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer can be re-used, as I save my used product at times in a small glass jar. The used product works well for especially messy jobs as it sometimes takes a few washes with the product to remove the old paint.I have only one issue with Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer. It melts my gloves, leaving a bigger mess than what I had in the first place. I work in the medical field and frequently wash my hands. My hands are a little rough, even during the best of times. The chemical components of Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer (likely ethanol) dry out my hands even further to the point of serious discomfort. Every glove type I have available at home including nitrile and latex melt when they come into contact with Winsor & Newton Brush Cleaner & Restorer. I have reached out to the manufacturing company and asked a question on this listing for a glove material suggestion to wear, and have never had a response. This leaves me with the choice of doing further damage to my hands each time I use the product, or avoiding one of my favorite hobby-related activities. Neither choice makes me very happy. I would like very much to have a suggestion for a chemically compatible glove material to use in the future. Thanks for reading my review. I hope this has been helpful to you in some way, and you will kindly click the button below.

This will restore literally any brush
This is probably just about as close to holy water as you can get - it completely cleans and restores all brushes. It even restored an old, practically destroyed brush I had, and now its almost as good as new, despite thoroughly torturing the poor thing when first learning how to paint miniatures. It doesn't smell, its quick (leave it overnight), it comes off easily when washing your brushes afterward (don't skip this or it'll melt plastic). I absolutely cannot recommend this enough for brush care.
