I exercise in a public park and I have been threatened by two off-leash dogs within a month. Since, I bought this, I have not had to use it for protection, but I feel much more secure by having it in my pocket. It's easy to use with one hand and it does have a finger activated safety switch to prevent accidental discharge. It's a solid piece of aluminum, so it could have additional use as an impact tool similar to a Kubotan for people who have some training in self-defense techniques.

I recently was put at increased risk and decided to begin carrying pepper spray at my family's urging. I chose this option because it is more discrete than a traditional pepper spray, and I liked that it doubles as a kubaton (which I have prior experience working with) giving you multiple defense options. Because it is not obviously pepper spray, I feel comfortable keeping it on me at work and I have a force multiplier should I ever need to defend myself. It is comfortable in my hand and fits well in the pocket of my uniform. While I don't feel "safer" per se it is comforting to know I have options if escaping or pepper spray misses or fails (there is a population of people unaffected by pepper spray and as well as who become enraged and fight harder rather than being distracted). I like that there is an option to purchase practice cartridges. Know your tools and practice with them. Running should always be your first choice if possible. Great option.

Ordered recently and had an issue with one of the inserts. I contacted the company through Amazon; they were very cordial and rectified the issue immediately.There are trade-offs when considering the amount of solution and maximum effective distance, but I haven't found anything on the market that's more compact. Application is also more intuitive in my opinion. For that reason I'm more likely to carry it on a regular basis. The product feels very sturdy and well built.I plan to buy more of these and a few of their other products in the future if this one continues to be reliable and perform to standard.

This is my second one. My first I assembled incorrectly and fired and had to dispose of it. It cleared a building when I did so! The spray is powerful and I trust it much more ironically now that I sampled the intensity of the spray. I have been sprayed before during training and also by an attacker years ago so I seem to have a better tolerance than those around me who have not been exposed. They were practically gagging and running when it hit the air and it didn't even hit them on their person! I got some on my shirt and on my work desk. Luckily my co-workers are a good natured bunch and we all had a laugh over it.On a more serious note, if any of my office mates had a respiratory illness this could have been very dangerous or even life threatening. Since I own a business that is related to this type of product, and we take self-defense seriously everyone appreciated the effect and impromptu training drill. Read directions carefully when using and installing replacement canister. My co-worker was watching me and insisted the directions were wrong so I tried his way and he had to eat crow. Now we both know, and he actually purchased one of these too due to his response to the spray!

This Defender spray is Garbage. I was testing this ASP spray to see how far it spray but instead it leak out when I press the button. for some one that didn't thought about testing it out before use, your pretty much screwed when your in a situation when you have to use it.

This is the coolest undercover weapon I've ever owned. I do recommend getting the extra pack with the inert formula that way you have two doses of heat, the one that comes in the barrel and a replacement. DEFINITELY TEST RIGHT AWAY. I hope I never have to use this but I wanted to say something in response to the complaints that the Palm Defender isn't high power enough: If you are using mace that means you lost your chance to run away and avoid close range conflict. MACE IS A CLOSE RANGE DEFENSE WEAPON! Ignore the reviews about it not projecting far enough (the reviews that cite issues with the depressor probably just got the one bad one in the batch, doesn't happen that often and if you test before you rely on it, you would know if it needed replacing.) I absolutely love the natural grip, the rotating keyring turns it into a secondary weapon which if you have taken any self defense classes, you know the follow up action is just as important as the first strike. AND the safety isn't bulky and it WORKS! I feel safer, more badass, and totally nondescript with this on my keychain.
