I needed to lift a large cumbersome attic ladder into place by myself. Originally I was going to use a simple pullers system but decided to try this hoist out. Man am I glad I did. This unit is extremely capable and works extremely smoothly and is very powerful. The safety shut off works flawlessly. You can double the cable and double the lifting capacity as advertised.When I tied off the attic ladder and put it to work it was great! It held the ladder in position until I secured it safely and then I released it from the ladder. I will use this hoist for lifting heavy equipment and large cabinets onto dollies...saving my back!There are some dead trees in the back yard and I will use this hoist to lift them and then relocate them for resewing.This is a well made tool and works great. If you need a hoist for the money this is a exceptional deal.

I purchased this hoist to raise hay bales up to my hay loft and for maintenance chores in the shop. I am very satisfied with the construction of this machine and it compares much favorably over the lighter 220/440 lb. capacity models offered by others. This machine has a 440/880 lb capacity.Operation is smooth but like most the starts and stops are sudden. There is a positive brake so the cable will not slip and the overlimit device is well made, a steel loop and not plastic. The pendant (operating switch) is on a cord almost six feet long but if you need it longer you can wire it in yourself by getting a three? conductor SO cord* and make it longer.You should be careful to make sure your lift is straight since you want the cable to wrap properly. If the cable is allowed to bunch up on one side of the drum especially with a heavy load you will wear out the cable sooner.The instruction book is clear, the finish of the hoist is very good and the operation is sure and smooth. The hanger loops are made to fit a length of Unistrut type channel (PL-1000 or equal, I believe)This hoist performs the job very well.

The media could not be loaded.  So instead of spending over 3k for an attic lift already made. I purchased the champion electric hoist and built my own. Works great and I spent a lot less than 3k.. lol.. plus the satisfaction of making it myself.Just wish the cord that controls the unit was longer.
