Camping Mattress/Pad???
In this review, I will be testing out the “Butterfly Craze Kids Floor Pillow Fold Out Lounger” as a camping mattress/pad for my SUV camping setup. My boys and I like to camp, but my body doesn’t like the cold, hard ground or the firmness of the bare cargo area of my SUV. Most camping pads in my price range are not comfortable enough, and I definitely don’t want to deal with a full size mattress in the back of my SUV. As I test and review the “Butterfly Craze Kids Floor Pillow Fold Out Lounger,” I will be looking specifically at the following:Cost- It needed to be reasonably priced (under $30).Cleanliness: Every part of the mattress/pad needed to be machine washable.Storage: I had to be able to store it in my SUV on a permanent basis when not camping, and when transporting it to the campsite, the mattress/pad needed to fold up so that I could store things around it.Winter and Summer Use: I plan on camping in all seasons so the pad has to keep me warm as well as cool.Frugal and Simple: I want to use things that I already own instead of buying more new things that I have to find a place to store.Comfort: I want a good night’s sleep even when camping.I received the Pillow Fold Out Lounger today, and out of the box, I can post some of my initial reactions to it. Of course, I will update my review later after a camping trip.Cost: The price is definitely right on the money. Including taxes, my cost for the product was $28.07.Cleanliness: Out of the box, I took 5 King sized pillows and placed them in the five king sized pillow cases that have been sewn together. This is a simple but effective design. The tag says that the Pillow Floor Lounger can be washed and dried according to the included directions. Of course, the pillows I use in it can be cleaned at home as well.Storage: When not in use, the Pillow Floor Lounger can be folded up and stored neatly in my SUV. While testing it out at home with goose down pillows, I discovered that I could probably fold and compress it to a smaller size. Bungee cords would probably hold it flat and tight during transportation.Winter and Summer Use: THIS WILL BE REVIEWED AFTER CAMPING TRIP.Frugal and Simple: I already own enough king sized pillows to fill all five pillow cases in the Pillow Floor Lounger, so beyond buying the Pillow Floor Lounger, I already own and use daily everything that it requires to use as a mattress/pad. When I get ready to go camping, all I will need to do is grab the pillows off my bed, stuff them in the Pillow Floor, and then take it to the SUV. Simple and it uses things I already have. (no new stuff to buy). In addition as my pillows wear out, I can easily replace individual pillows as needed. Sounds frugal enough.Comfort: I placed it at home on a concrete floor using goose down pillows and tried it out. My initial reaction: It’s pretty comfortable! Of course, I will update this review when I get it out on a camping trip and I’ve spent a Southern summer night on it. I will include some pictures of my setup as well during the camping trip. This would not work for most camping situations where there is a chance of it getting wet (tent camping on ground for instance). It definitely would not work for backpack camping since five pillow is a lot of weight. I have high expectations that this will work for those sleeping inside of cars or SUVs though. I will update soon, and if my night goes well, I will consider ordering another one for one of my children to try out also so I can give you their review as well. Most likely, their reduced weight will probably mean even a better night’s sleep.

High quality, SUPER SOFT, very comfy!
***UPDATE**I waited a month of continued daily use before submitting. It’s held up like a champ to my 4 rowdy rough & tumble boys, who are all in love with this, ages 8,7,3 & 1.5 yrs old. Now they all want one! Fabric is durable & not a stain on it even with a month of 4 kids having snacks/juice boxes on it. We use our’s for under my toddler’s loft bed as his reading nook hide out spot. Even us adults like to lounge in there on it for story time as it is comfy! We have our’s folded over a bit as it is really long & wise for the King size & we are still doing some toy box rearranging under there. No regrets on this purchase!Beautiful, high quality, SO SUPER SOFT, print is adorable as well. I can’t say enough good things about this. I purchased the King size option. The material seems extremly strong yet truly so soft! It’s a high quality fabric that feels similar to velvet but not hot or sweat inducing at all. I like how all of the zippers are on the backs of each individual pillow pocket, importantly the zippers have a thick layer of the fabric on top, so the zippers are not exposed meaning no scratching or kids getting hurt on the zippers as well as my 2 yr old doesn’t have easy access to the zippers as he likes to unzip our couch pillows and pull out stuffing. Luckily there’s none of those worries with this! I bought $9 medium king pillows from Walmart to fill it. The only downfall is that I noticed the zippers (very delicate and fragile) some of them were already off track half zipped already upon opening. I simply unzipped carefully, lined it up correctly, zipped back up just fine after that. Advice: Just be gentle when inserting the pillows using caution around the zippers, cinch material together with your hand while you zip up slowly with your other hand. Being careful then the zippers are fine. Also watch out how firm of pillows you get for the king size if you also get king size pillows because I could barely get them to fit in and mine were only medium firmness. Any more firm of pillows then you could probably stuff them in it make them fit but run the risk of the zippers ripping or getting off track. That’s the only con which is only minor as I’ll only be using the zippers upon a rare washing.

Soft and cushy -- my son loves it!
My 17-month old son has (mild) gross motor skill and sensory processing delays, so his Occupational Therapist instructed me to provide him with a lot of deep pressure by tossing him onto a bed or cushions, and squishing a small pillow or bean bag on his back, etc. I wanted to find some type of mattress I could put on the floor so my baby could climb on and off safely. After searching on Amazon, I found this "Butterfly Craze Kids Floor Pillow Fold Out Lounger" and it look like the ideal thing.I bought the "King Size" -- which is NOT the same size as a king-size bed, but has a larger width of 32" than the other Butterfly Lounger size. I did have to buy 5 king-size pillows (king size pillows are 36" long, but they do fit inside the 32" Butterfly lounger -- just stuff them in) but cheap polyfill will do. You want firm support, not feather-down. The Lounger has a zipper for each of the 5 sections to insert the pillow. This Lounger was just what I needed! My son loves it, and I feel better tossing him onto this than onto a bed where he can roll off. He loves to crawl and roll around on it. The 5 sections allow me to fold the Lounger into different shapes for my son to explore. The lounger washes easily in cold water and low dryer setting. For long-term storage (if you're not going to use it every day), take out the pillows and fold the Lounger casing flat to put in a closet. The pillows can be stacked in a closet or stuffed under beds, stored in the garage, etc. It's easier to remove the pillows for storage than to fold up the Lounger with pillows inside -- way too bulky, as least for the storage space at my house.Anyway, this is a great new cushion for my son to play on for therapy and for fun!
