Are the size of the puzle pieces for the l000 piece puzzle much different than the 500 piece puzzle ?

Passed that puzzle on to another. Compare "Wonder and Bloom", a five hundred piece puzzle by Galison that is 20 by 20 inches (400 sq. inches) versus the Serenity Meow which is 20 by 27 inches (540 sq. inches) with 1000 pieces and the pieces must be smaller. The Wonder and Bloom pieces are roughly 1 and 1/8 by 1 and 3/8. The Serenity puzzle having twice as many pieces (1000) would necessarily have to be smaller dimensions in size.

Do the pieces to this puzzle fit tightly the 500 piece puzzle pieces fit well together?

This is a 1000 piece puzzle so I don't understand your question exactly but as for how the pieces go together, they don't fit that snugly. It is a cute puzzle but irritating to put together because you could not move chunks as a whole.
