Smart portable digital radio MP3 player
What a fab little portable radio/ mp3 player. It reminds me of the mall transistor radio I had when I was a child but it has all the hi tech bells and whistles I never even dreamed of in those days past. It's about the size of a small camera or a plump mobile phone. It's small enough to pop in my handbag or backpack and carry around anywhere I'm going. Its a fully functional digital radio which you can easily auto tune to dozens of radio stations. It has a pull out antenna which at first glance makes it appear very retro - but BOY does it improve the reception and sound quality! There is a very deep rich sound to this super little gadget which really surprised me, it has the sound, depth and volume of a much much bigger piece of audio equipment. It is also an MP3 player all you do is pop your sd card in the slot and play your music collection on the go. And it has a mini torch built in great for when you're camping, on holiday or just listening in bed. You can even use it as a usb speaker for your pc or any audio with a usb slot. You can listen with headphones if you don't want to share your music but its so loud and clear its perfect to get everyone bopping at that impromptu beach party. It comes complete with a rechargeable Lithium ion battery which recharges the unit via a usb charger or your pc. (usb lead also included) It also has a nice clear lcd display. And did I say it looks really good too? I love my little radio/ MP3 player.

An cute little radio with some surprising pluses but also some quirks
This is a cute little unit that behaves bigger than it looks. The plastic housing is high quality and unless you look closely, has the appearance of actual metal. The sound is good for the size of speaker. The buttons however are odd - if you use a standard phone keypad where numbers 1-9 are in a square grid, you may find yourself hitting the wrong button (top row: 1,2, middle row: 3,4,5,6!). But why would you need the numbers when it auto-tunes for you? This brings me on to the biggest negative: the tuner. The tuner is not as good as the one in my (bottom end) mobile phone. The channel search fails to pick up quite a few channels that my mobile picks up easily*. This means that you need to type in the frequency you want instead of using the up/down buttons. As long as you don't change station, it does remember though, so you don't have to re-type it every time you switch the radio on. One unusual feature of the FM tuner is that it covers a wider band than ordinary FM radios, going down to 70MHz rather than 87.5Mhz. Whilst there are no public broadcast radio stations in the UK at that frequency there may be elsewhere. One unusual plus point is the ear protection. The volume in the ear phones is low compared to the speaker volume, so you don't get a shock plugging in. There is also no pop in the headphones when you turn the radio off/on. The radio does sometimes seem to forget the headphones are plugged in though and suddenly start playing out of the speaker at the much higher volume level, which can be a bit of a shock! The emergency torch is a welcome addition and does operate without the radio being on. It is of the hold-the-button-down variety, so good for signalling, but can't be used hands free. All in all the strong points are looks and portability. There is a lot in this radio for little weight and size, so good to pack if you want a radio on the go that won't fail at the same time as your mobile phone battery, however it is let down buy its poor tuning ability.Tips:1. Although there's only one speaker, the headphone socket allows you to listen stereo (if you're tuned to an FM Stereo station)2. The built in aerial is OK but the headphones act as an additional aerial, for the very best reception use headphones - particularly when you do the initial channel search3. As everybody else has said if you insert the disc on the end of the wrist strap into its slot at the back of the radio it stands up nicely4. The charge point takes a USB mini connector (supplied) not a USB micro such as found in most mobiles so if travelling you'll need to take both* I offer this by way of comparison for those wanting FM - I actually bought it for AM as I have no other receiver so unfortunately can't comment on the AM tuning, other than to say that the number of stations it finds seem suspiciously small.
