Unstable, draws too much power and crashes the computer
This drive does not work as advertised. It's not compatible with the USB specification, its USB-C port doesn't work at all, and using it with a spec-compliant host device will be an exercise in frustration.Pros: it kinda works, if your computer has a USB-3 port that does not follow the USB spec and allows devices to draw too much power. So if you're lucky, and use an Intel desktop motherboard that does this, you might not notice anything wrong with it.Cons: it didn't work at all for me when I tried to plug it in using the USB-C port. And when trying to use it with a Mac Mini, it kept crashing the host USB bus and all of the devices on it (keyboard, mouse, etc.) which as you can imagine might be quite dangerous and lead to data loss or even device failure.

Does Not Play Blu-Rays
After installing this on my 8 month old Dell Precision 7680 Workstation running Win 11 - The window that came up when I tried to run a Blu-Ray said I needed additional software to play a Blu-Ray - After much grumbling I coughed up the $76.81 for the additional software to Cyberlink for their PowerDVD 23 Ultra - It still doesn't work and after a great deal of fooling around with software and settings and trying different Blu-Ray disks I finally threw the player away - JUNK - JUNK - JUNK - Over $120 of JUNK - If I could score this player less than 1 star they would have gotten it - I would love to return it but I'm past my 30 days with all the fooling around trying to make this thing work

Great for archiving personal data, images, or videos.
Had no issues using this device on a Dell Precision laptop. The laptop recognized this as a Matshita BD-MLT UJ240AF Blueray drive. This can record up to a duel layer Blueray disc. Backward compatible to use plain DVD discs as well. Great price point for a external drive. Mostly got mine just in case I needed to read or write DVD/Blueray disc since most laptops I come across now doesn't come with a internal disc drive. Someone else mentioned about playing movies made for different regions. Windows 11 shows that you can change regions up to 4 times (see uploaded image) so if you have purchased movies from different regions, you might want to just stick to one region.

Review - revised
You must have appropriate software to use this device. If you do not have the appropriate software it will not work. A lot of software is free online.

A blu-ray player that...doesn't play blu-rays?
Edit:Okay, I acknowledge the absence of software is clearly stated on the product page--I should have read that more clearly.Perhaps it didn't work for me because it was set to the wrong region, as mentioned in other reviews.Still, I won't be able to get the product to work without software, and I'm too wary of downloading software off the internet (and probably having to spend money on premium versions) to go this route. I've decided to buy a TV-compatible headset so I can use the existing blu-ray player in the house but not bother my family with the volume.Review upgraded to 2 stars because I'm not sure the product is as faulty as I'd thought, but I'm not going to find out for sure. To me, 3 stars would be indicative of an "average" product that does the job with nothing exceptional to boast, and given that some of my difficulties may have been due to an incorrect region setting, I'm inclined to believe the product is still subpar. (As in, possibly a troubleshoot-able issue, but region settings seem like a very basic thing that shouldn't gatekeep people who are not tech-savvy...still feels to me like a product defect.)Original Review:It doesn't come with software installed to read blu-rays. You have to install this separately on your computer. I tried multiple different blu-ray playback apps, and got either a prompt to upgrade to premium or an error message every time. I don't know whether it's the fault of the hardware (this product) or the software (that I installed separately), but apparently blu-rays require some kind of library of security keys to be read, and this was not available to me. I truly don't know if I got a chance faulty item or if the product itself just doesn't work, but I'm starting a return 2 hours after it was delivered after trying and failing to get it to work. I do not recommend.

Click, click, click.
All it does is click, click, click. Empty or with a disk, that's all it does. What do I do? It's like something inside is try to rotate but can't.
