Q: Usb b charging? if it requires aa batteries to run how does it charge? i thought the usb would be for transferring files?

The USB is for transfering files. It uses AA batteries but doesn't charge them. But....you can buy rechargeable AA batteries and a charger and use those.

Q: 850 or 940nm operation?

As per the manual, page 7, the IR Illuminator Power/Wavelength is 1 W / 850 nm
