Q: Trying to replace the batteries. Bought 390 battery equivalent. What is the battery orientation: all + upward? These batteries don't work.

Batteries are oriented with the positive/“+” facing out toward the cover. Be careful to make sure that the battery cover/cap is fully tightened. As always with plastic threads, avoid over tightening. Also, be aware that the batteries that were included with the unit I purchased were of poor quality, and my battery tester indicated that they needed to be replaced. Note, the on/off switch is fairly small and located near the hinge on the opposite side of the battery port. Without using my reading glasses, it is mildly difficult to see. It is a three-position switch, where the middle position is “off” and the two other positions control the corresponding LEDs — one LED for each lens. Finally, verify that you have the correct batteries and that they are not dead. My unit came with AG10 batteries. According to one website, AG10 Batteries also use the following model numbers: LR1130, L1131, LR54, 187, 387, 389, 390. I don’t know if these numbers are correct, nor why there needs to be so many different numbers for the same battery!? If you do not own a battery tester, I suggest getting one; they come in handy for situations like yours where you may not know if the batteries are the problem, or if the magnifier just doesn’t work. Amazon sells one, that accommodates most batteries, for ~$5. Hope this info helps.

Yes. There is a small loop on the frame designed just for that purpose.

Q: what is the lense made of?

Im not sure, but it feels like plastic.acrylic, not glass. But optically, it transmits accurate images and things are very clear and vibrant.
