Gitzo G2020 Hook for 1 and 2 Series Tripods

I was too stupid to check the negative reviews of this product, so I bought it based on the Amazon claim that it fits Gitzo Series 1 and Series 2 tripods. Can't understand why Amazon continues to list this item as fitting Gitzo Series 1 and Series 2 tripods even after many other people have posted reviews that tell you it doesn't fit. They are correct. I bought a Gitzo Series 1 tripod from Amazon, specifically, the Gitzo GT1545TUS. This item (the Gitzo G2020 Hook) does not fit this (otherwise very nice) tripod. As an experiment, I just bought a Gitzo G1145 bushing (which is not meant to fix this problem) to see if it would, in fact, solve the problem. This bushing arrived today and the bushing will screw on to the Gitzo G2020 Hook but, unfortunately, the bushing is not correct for the tripod's center column (the outside diameter of the bushing is too big). As I said, the bushing was not intended for this purpose, so I'm not faulting the bushing. I'm just mentioning this in case you might be thinking of trying this bushing to see if it works to allow the Gitzo 2020 Hook to fit your Series 1 Gitzo tripod. It doesn't. Next stop: the hardware store -- to see if I can find a bushing that will solve the problem.

Purchased this tripod hook for my Gitzo 1XXX series tripod. Worked as advertised. I first checked with my local camera shop and they confirmed that it would fit my 1 series specific model tripod before I purchased it at Amazon. This hook allows me to put my camera backback on my small 1 series tripod and allows it to stabilize it for a Nikon pro body and f/2.8 lens setup. IMHO, a must for a 1 series tripod, and a relatively cheap accessory for a Gitzo tripod. The hook is made of metal, and adds very little weight to the tripod, and replaces the hard plastic cap.

Description on Amazon states: About this item Only compatible with Series 1 and Series 2 Carbon 6X tripods (will not fit Carbon eXact tripods) I recently got a Series 2 Carbon 6X tripod and this hook does NOT fit. OD of thread on tripod where hook would go is 9.4 mm. OD of thread on tripod for hook placement is 11.75 mm. This hook does NOT thread into the tripod hook mounting threaded hole; too small diameter on the thread.

This item was purchased for an early Gitzo G1228 tripod that was acquired used without a hook. Threads and construction match perfectly with the center column. Price was competitive with other dealers. Some parts for the series 1 tripods are becoming expensive and hard to find, so I recommend acquiring this part while it's still readily available through Amazon.

Whatever was in the bottom of the center post of my Gitzo fell out in a creek in the Wind River range. After that nothing stops the center post from sliding out of the tripod when I loosen and slide it. Since it was gone to me I couldn't see what it even looked like and I didn't remember since I don't really use a hook. I bought this to replace it. I'm sure there is nothing wrong with this Gitzo hook, however, the description states that it fits Series 2 Gitzo tripods. It does not fit my Series 2 (GT2545T). The part that screws in is too small. I returned it and bought the one claimed to fit at B&H which is a very different design and has the larger bolt size. It fit and now keeps the center post in the tripod.

My old Gitzo G201 Series 2 Reporter needs a counterweight for stability during video pans. So I bought the Gitzo G2020 Hook and it fit like a glove, threading into the 3/8" socket on the bottom of the center staff. The hook is spring loaded and retracts when not used. I hung a wine bag filled with rocks off the hook and my old G201 was as steady as it gets. However, I was a little underwhelmed with the build quality of the G2020: lightweight plastic housing, plastic threads and a very modest metal hook. I was expecting metal housing and a more beefy hook so I’ll report back if the hook goes south. In hindsight, I could have saved a few bucks and rigged up a 3/8” stud with D-ring or hook. Nevertheless the G2020 Hook fits and functions perfectly but is a bit light duty for my taste.

The tripod hook is great for hanging my backpack when working in wet conditions - and enables me to use a smaller tripod than I might otherwise. I also hang a small red LED from it when working in low light to enable me to find the camera quickly when light painting, etc.

This item DOES NOT work with Series 2 tripods, as the item description states. I have a Gitzo GT2530, and it does not fit! What a waste of money. I'm currently living in a foreign country and had to have my friend hand carry this to me from the USA, so it's impossible to return it. What a waste of money. Shame on Amazon for not supplying an accurate description of this item!

G1228はgitzosparesで2004以前（≦2004）／以後（≧2004）に分かれています。2004以前モデルはD201.50が付くことになっており、この世代にフック付きのパーツはラインナップされていません。 物は試しでG2020を取り寄せて比較しましたが、ネジのピッチが異なる（ポールの方がピッチが細かい）ため取り付け不可でした。ご参考までに。 （追記）GS5000C M12 to 3/8" Adapter を装着し、G2020を取り付けることができました。どうやらD201.50はM12ネジで、G2020は3/8"のようです。G1228に限らずgitzosparesでD201.50の装着が示されている他のモデルでもGS5000Cを介することで（あくまで自己責任で）装着が可能ではないかと思われます。

Fits my tripod but nowhere near as robust as the original hook and it's plastic. Doesn't seem very strong and it's certainly over-priced. Update. It unscrewed itself and fell out after 3 weeks on the field, and unnoticed by me.

Petit accessoire indispensable pour accrocher un poids sous le trépied que j'ai finalement acheté online (après l'avoir cherché vainement en magasin) pour remplacer celui de mon Gitzo GT-2940LVL (série 2) que j'avais égaré. Parfait et envoi immédiat.

Not sure if I’m doing something wrong, but this doesn’t actually fit my gitzo traveller series 2. Tried with this adapter thread and it was a no as well. Screws in but doesn’t catch the threads so it won’t stay. Sent it back.
