Starrett quality that fits rulers from much cheaper squares.
Starrett quality and it fits on the ruler of a much cheaper square that I have. Since it does not require a proprietary ruler it made it easier to afford to buy just the center head. It works perfectly.

Quality Starrett Tool
Like any starrett tool it is a quality tool. Was shipped in an envelope with the normal starrett box. I think that the price is fair for what it is. From time to time you will need to check and adjust the center head. You can check how accurate the center head is by getting a machined disc and putting the center head on the disc like you normally would. Then you make a mark where the ruler is and then rotate the center head 180 degrees. If both lines match, the center head is accurate, if not it will need to be adjusted. You can adjust the center head by sanding one side a little and rechecking on the disk, until both sides of the center head line up with each other.

The typical Starrett quality
I have several Starrett tools in my home workshop, I use several at work, and we have a large selection out in the shop at work. My home combo square, quite surprisingly, is NOT a Starrett. It's an old forged 12" Craftsman that I have had for many years, and it has served me very well. Who knows? It might have even been made by Starrett back in the day. It was long overdue for a center head, and Starrett has a heck of a lot bigger selection of them than Craftsman. Well, it showed up, and fit my dearly beloved Craftsman like a charm. I don't know how universal the fit is on combo square parts, but this was pretty dang near perfect. It will be getting much use.

Does the job!
I watched several videos on how to make jigs to find the center point of a dowel or square. While I came close, I never really succeeded at finding the true center. For the price, there was nothing to lose! This product is solid and true - finding center points is no longer a problem. It was well worth the money!!!

love it
Come on, we are talking about Starrett here. They invented the combination square in 1878. You can buy a used head in any condition spray it with a penetrating oil and lightly remove the rust with a mild abrasive like scotch-brite. You may need to buy a replacement pin to hold the blade. But you can restore any head to usable condition. All Starrett heads are either drop forged or hardened so they last a lifetime. As long as Starrett continues to make their tools in Athol, Mass they will continue to be the leader in precision tools. Anyway about this particular head. It's for the 6" blade and is wrinkle finished. The nut to hold the pin is knurled so it's easier to tighten/loosen. This is the exact tool you need to find center on small diameter objects. Always keep your heads oiled so they don't oxidize(rust) and you will leave this tool to your children when your dead and gone.

Good Stuff!
Fit perfectly on my 35+ year old 12" Craftsman combination square ruler (#39555). Said ruler is 1" wide, with a longitudinal groove on one side. As far as the quality of the center head itself - one word: Starrett!

Belle finition, mais s'adapte pas à cette équerre combiné de la même marque, la lame est trop épaisse. La déscription aussi bien sur Amazon que sur le site Starrett laissait croire que c'était compatible. J'ai malheureusement du le renvoyer
