John of the Cross: Selected Writings (The Classics of Western Spirituality)

John of the Cross, in these writings, gives a detailed and straightforward explanation of the processes that take place on the road to union with God. For any who would attempt to start out on that road, this is a must read along with authors like Augustine, Aquinas, Francis DeSales, Fulton Sheen, Garigou-LeGrange and others.

The text is a solid introduction to the mystic thought and times of St. John of the Cross. I gained new insight to the realm of Catholic Mysticism and the wealth of spiritual thought and experience had by my Medieval brother.

Purchased this to add to my Classics of Western Spirituality collection. When I get around to reading it, probably years from now, I'll probably review it then.

Best to readthe work in short settings. The writing is inspirational,thought provoking and not as formidable as the introductionsuggests.

A recommended read for pilgrims of all faith traditions seeking a more contemplative spiritual journey. Theresa of Avila is an equally compelling read.
