I answered one of the reviews here that was saying this book was pretty basic and when I was updating it I decided I'd just repeat myself in my own 5 star review:"The more I study and research health the more and more I become aware that consistent application of the basics is what matters most. I have bought many 'health care' books that are complex with detailed research and theory so a small book about basics appeals to me.I'll read The New Health Rules and report back. UPDATE: Read it Love it!Also, I would suggest to anyone interested in common sense helps to 'seek out' herbalist Richard Schulze's small (266 page paperback): Dr. Schulze's 20 Powerful STEPS to a Healthier LIFE. This book can be read online for free. [...]or contact Dr. Schulze's company American Botanical Pharmacy in Marina Del Rey, CA for information on how to get a hard copy.Dr. Schulze web site is [...]His herbal products are wonderful --only many of his products contain peppers which I have a sensitivity to. I still take a few of his products and I love them and I have friend who use all his products. Schulze is a Hoot -He is authoritative and dogmatic but with a great sense of humor. His teaching is down to earth, natural easy and common sense. He shares a lot of great information from his books and his blog. Please never pass up information because you think it is too simple, too basic. Simple, God given natural remedies work and are often low cost or even FREE. Truth wherever you find it will set you free. I think it is important to give credit where credit is due and I find the hard copy of 'The New Health Rules...', beautiful and helpful. I keep a copy on my coffee table and I review it often. I have also given it as a gift. It has great simple ideas for Human Health. Along the lines or simple, powerful truths consider for Human Spirituality what the Word of God proclaims in 1 Corinthians 1:18-31.You cannot buy or sell hope and the best things in life are provided free by the Grace of God. John 14:6"

The 101 course for healthy living
Although this book is based on years of research, it delivers advice on how to find your way back to health and a healthy lifestyle in a straight and simple way. The reader is not asked to trudge through the research, simply to receive its benefits. It is rare to see the breadth of knowledge covering foods, supplements, home/personal care products, excercise and more, gathered in one place and delivered in such a direct way. Plus it's well written and the photos are beautiful! Individuals beginning the journey of learning how to take care of themselves will value it as an inspiring, enjoyable and masterful introductory book - the 101 course for healthy living; while connoisseurs in healthy living will value it for having collected so many normally disparate but related subjects in one place, providing reminders for watchfulness and starting points for further improvements. I'm going to keep this one close and give it / recommend it for the people I care about.

Health Rules for Real People
I ordered this after reading a recommendation online and have read about 2/3 of the way through it. A lot of it is common sense, but it is nice to have an "expert" tell you that you are doing things right. So often the experts recommend health solutions that seem impossible to comply with. These suggestions seem easier to accomplish. Also I like the fact that each suggestion takes up less than a page and has an accompanying photo on the page across from it--makes for a fast and easy read.

Great, engaging book with easy-to-digest health advice
This is one of the most helpful and non-scary health books I've come across. It's full of short and to-the-point tidbits of healthy lifestyle advice that are simple and practical to take in as opposed to most health books out there that are hundreds of pages long and filled with so much overwhelming information I don't know where to start. With this book, I can flip to a random page every day and find practical, actionable steps that I can implement right away. I love it and highly recommend it.

Really Wanted To Like This, But...
This is a very knowledgeable author (I have one of his earlier books, plus this seems to be "my" area so I'm familiar with Dr. Lipman) but I sure am tired of the Paleo Diet nonsense. Look it up; its benefits have been much over-rated. This may sound a little simplistic but really, humans only became civilized when we settled down and ate grains. WHOLE grains --- very unfortunately confused with heavily-process crap so ubiquitous in our stores --- are a necessary and valuable part of a healthy diet. If you don't trust wheat eat farro or short grain brown rice or quinoa; there are many others. Additionally the way one eats has quite an impact on one's mood and interaction with those around him or her. So go ahead and eat Paleo in the early part of your day, but you'll find you sleep better, feel more relaxed and interact more pleasantly with the other human beings around you if you dial back the protein and ramp up the whole grains (and legumes and maybe nuts/seeds) toward the later half of your day. I wanted to like this book; it has many good points and I admire the authors' skill in distilling complex topics down to essentially written word sound bites. I wanted to buy a large number of copies and give it to friends and relatives (so they would no longer need to listen to ME!). But unfortunately it has become tainted for me, with not one but at least three items/pages, where grain-bashing has occurred.

Great and practical advice for a healthy life
Great and practical advice for a healthy life. I read this book in one sitting and was truly inspired to adopt its principles. The book covers all facets of life, body-mind-soul. It not only contains great information about eating and exercise, but also talks about using chemical-free products on your body and in your home. It talks about getting enough sunshine, good sleep, meditation, and much more. Some of it I already knew, but it's written in a way that motivates me to follow through. It's a book I'll read over and over to keep anchoring these healthy habits.
