These are real drums, not kiddie drums
I bought these for my 5-year old son on the recommendation of a local music shop. At $250ish, I figured there was no downside if they weren't great. But here's the deal...they are freaking awesome! Absolutely great drums that look and sound great for a little person to get started on. I'm not a drummer, but I've played in bands and I can appreciate a good drum sound. My only complaint is that they didn't have instructions, but that turned out to be just fine as they paid for this guy to do an instructional video on Youtube for D2's which are close enough to follow along ([..]). It took me right at an hour to set them up following along on the video. In short, this is a great product at the price point. I know this sounds canned, but I'm totally blown away by how great this little kit is for my little guy.

Awesome Christmas Present!
I got this for my 4 year old son for Christmas. He absolutely loves it and can't stop playing it. The set was easy to put together and it is really decent quality. Only 4 stars because of the cheap hi hat foot pedal and bass drum pedal.... hopefully they hold up for a while. These drums sound really good. The hi hats sound pretty good(suprised) however, the crash/ride cymbal is pretty bad(I expected this) for 200 bucks this is a great present for your aspiring percussionist!

Drums are usable. Cymbals are toys.
I got these for my 7 year old son who wants to start learning drums. He hasn't seen them yet but I'm sure he'll like the way they look. At first I was concerned they were too small and would appear as a toy and not "real" drums, but that fear lessoned after finishing assembly. I also compared this set to some other junior drums and they all seem to use 16 inch kick drums. The kick, tom, and snare are my favorite parts of this set. They look nice and will serve well. The cymbals, kick pedal, and hi-hat stand are my least favorite parts. They might suffice for 5 year olds who just want to bang on some drums. In my case, I want my son to start real drum lessons so these parts will be replaced with spare hardware from other sets I have around the house. I think this set is best thought of as a starter kit with pieces to be replaced and upgraded as the user grows up.

Good, solid drums for kids for those that don't want the full on toy drums
Sweet drums! My son loved them as his Christmas present. He is almost three and can reach everything but the bass drum pedal. There were no instructions but from looking at the picture and not being an idiot it took about an hour to put them together. The cymbals sound cheap, because they are, but he's not opening for Metallica yet so they will do just fine for now. I would recommend these to someone looking for a step up above the toy drums. These feel and play solid, even to an adult.

MUCH better options out there. Horribly built.
I recently came across these d1 kits again & I was surprised that they haven’t changed how these kits were made yet the prices seem to have gone up. I purchased this kit years ago as a learning kit for my kids. If I had not missed the return window this would have gone back. That was even before I dismantled this kit & really found how horribly it was made. I saw other reviews mention the quality of this kit & that it’s not a toy. When I purchased this kit I didn’t think I was buying a toy as ddrum had become more reportable as an acoustic drum manufacturer. I was very wrong.I’ve been playing & buying drums for a couple decades now, trust me this kit is not far from being a toy kit. Remo clear Ambassadors made these sound better but only slightly took away the toy sound. The hardware is straight junk all the way around the kit... total junk. Your kid will smash up the kick pedal & hat stand for sure. Especially if they pound on them. The shells are horribly milled & the holes are drilled out horribly wonky too. The best thing about this kit is the snare, it doesn’t sound horrible. The Police Blue wraps are nice. The crash cymbal is really bad. Like it was made out of tin. The hi-hat has an interesting, fx type sound almost like a stack. I kept that around. There is no growing with this d1 kit. So I recommend the Pearl Roadshow bop kit in this price range for kids & adult learners alike. It is better sized, can be upgraded & the bass drum can be elevated using an inexpensive Gibraltar riser if needed. It sounds way beyond its price point. It comes with really good hardware & It will also last. This ddrum kit is not worth the price in any way. No care was put in to this kit at all. A shame.

Excellent Starter Drum Set
I bought this Drum Set for my grandson in April, but I just put it together today (12/23, I saw a post to not wait until Christmas Eve). There was not any instructions in the box; however, I found videos on YouTube on assembling a D2 Drum Set, which was enough to get started. It took two hours to assemble, but I wasn't in a hurry. Following the advice of other users, I replaced the 12" Snare with an 8" for little guys. The Drums are wooden, I saw many questions in reference to material.

Not the quality I would have expected! Cheap!
First off I am a drummer of many years I bought this set for my 3 year old to get started on and well, the pedals, stands and cymbals are nothing but junk cheap products. As for the toms snare and kick decent nothing to be excited about. The heads are rubbish very disappointed. I will suggest spend a little more and get the Ludwig set, same set up 100% better quality. If you don't care how they sound and how long they will last then go for these but I am extremely disappointed in my purchase.

Awesome drum set!
Of all the "jr" sized drum sets that we have looked at the ddrum D1 set is absolutely perfect for our 4 yr old son. He graduated up from a more toy like 3 pc set, so we didn't want to get another set that would not sound that great and not hold up to actual drum playing... Again this set was perfect. Quality construction, very good drums, cymbals and hi-hat could be a little better, but cymbals are usually hit or miss with this type of set. Also did not come with instructions, but a quick search turned up numerous sites offering tips. Above all the drums look and sound great and my son loves them.

Excellent Shells, Not so good hardware.
This is a good starter kit. The size is perfect for kids and the shells come sounding pretty decent (it is a real drum kit). The included cymbals/hi hat and pedals are not good enough though, and in my opinion must be replaced with better stuff in order for the child to enjoy playing.

There's a youtube video of an adult playing these well.
No instructions to set up but I managed fine using the picture. It's great. My 3 yr old loves it and will hopefully get good. She needs a little help onto the chair. I'd say it's good up to preteen age.

Skins aren't killer but for a kid to learn on they work great. Would definitely recommend
Overall I am quite impressed. Bought this for my 7 year old son and he loves it. It's a heavier set than other jr kits and so a bit more durable. Will likely need to buy new hardware (high hat and kick pedal) and cymbals. Skins aren't killer but for a kid to learn on they work great.Would definitely recommend.

Pretty decent kit for the money!
I paid a fiver over two hundred for this drum set, and I think it was well worth it. The cymbal and hi-hats are clangy trash, though. They may do in the short term for a toddler, but if your kid is serious about learning drums, you'll need to replace them with something that sounds at least a little bit like a cymbal should. The toms, kick, snare, and most of the hardware are all decent and should last for many years. If you tune these properly, even the stock heads sound alright. The sticks are really tiny, and kinda fat, so you may want to look into another option if your kid is struggling with them at all. The only other thing is the kick pedal is pretty flimsy. It'll work, but I expect I'll have to replace it at some point. Overall though, it's a good price for kid-sized shells and cymbal stands. It's way, way better than what I learned on as a kid, which was coffee cans, margarine pails, and can lids as cymbals (except the can lids sounded more legit than the cymbals included in this package).

So far these have been great. Perfect for my 5 yr old
So far these have been great. Perfect for my 5 yr old. The only drawback is that there are very few instructions for assembly, which left a lot of guessing for me and my husband when we were setting up the set. All in all, a great set
