So glad I gave this a try
In spite of many negative reviews, I decided to give this a try. I was looking for a replacement for Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Mineral Sunscreen 60+, which has been discontinued. In particular, I was looking for the same active ingredients Neutrogena had (5% Titanium Dioxide and 5% Zinc Oxide). This CeraVe Sunscreen has 9% and 7%. Yes, it does leave a slight white cast (I am fair skinned) but I just add a light covering of makeup (I wear this every single day). It is a little drying, so I can only use it in the summer months, and in the winter I switch to EltaMD UV Facial Broad-spectrum SPF 30+, which also has 7% zinc oxide but is a little lighter and less drying. This CeraVe sunscreen leaves a nice healthy sheen to my skin and feels heavenly, but is a little sticky to the touch. I love it as my new daily summer sunscreen.

Great mineral sunscreen
Some reviews bemoan the fact that it turns your skin white. And yes, I cannot disagree with them on that.However... It's a *mineral* based sunscreen. Mineral sunscreens work by providing a *physical* barrier. Meaning, there essentially *must* be a thick enough physical coating on your skin to prevent burn/UV. Chemical based works differently, and that's why you don't get a thick coating with those. So it's unfair to compare the two.Furthermore, this is an SPF 50, so it's going to be thicker -- *must* be thicker -- than lower SPF. I've used lower SPF minerals before and those are not as thick. This is a great sunscreen for me and it works fine for me because I'm a pretty pale kid who easily burns. So the white coating isn't as obvious on my skin. That's not true for everyone, however, so do what works best for you. For those blessed with darker skin, this white mineral coating probably does look kinda bad, so I don't blame y'all for hating that. Unfortunately, I don't see another way around that when you get a high SPF mineral sunscreen.Ultimately, get whatever sunscreen works best for you. But understand that this product does exactly what it's supposed to do and it really can't be better than it is. So, full marks from me.Again, I burn easily, so I reapply frequently. As long as I do that, I have never gotten burned while using this sunscreen. It's great and works really well.

This is an embarrassing product...
I like the rest of Cerave's line up, I use a ton of their other products. Their Skin Renewing Night Cream is probably one of the best moisturizers on the market at this moment and can go toe to toe with some of the big expensive brands you'd find at Sephora. I use their Diabetics Dry Skin Cream all the time and it's positively divine, so much so that I haven't bothered to test out other brands. It's just that good. This? This thing? I genuinely can't believe this is amongst their other products. I read a couple of reviews saying it leaves a white cast and I, looking for a way to make my fair medium skin tone lean more towards the fair end thought "hey, maybe it will lend me just enough to lighten me up a hair."No.I only used a tiny dab, not even the full amount you're SUPPOSED to use on your face and not only did it leave me with a white cast but with a blue-ish grey-ish cast that genuinely made me look like I had died about 6 hours ago. UNBELIEVABLY bad cast. And I'm a white person! If that leaves a cast that intense on me, I can't even imagine what kind of cast it would leave on someone darker than me!I get it, this is probably purely a physical sunscreen, its probably all zinc or mineral or something like that in there and the point is that is creates a literal physical barrier so that the uv light can't penetrate through or it bounces off. You can't have a physical barrier without it existing, that's literally impossible. HOWEVER. The fact that it's THAT bad of a blue grey cast??? What are we doing here?????

Good product, good price but leave dreaded ghost face
Good, inexpensive mineral face sunscreen. But gives you that ghost face. Now mix with Australian Gold tinted and some improvement. Very difficult to remove, but hey, I live in Florida!

Strong White Cast, Not Waterproof, Will Let You Tan
First, I do not recommend this for rigorous daily use or those with darker skin tones! This is a 100% mineral sunscreen, unlike some of CeraVe's other options. When you apply a "sufficient" amount according to guides, it looks VERY white - you can clearly tell you are wearing sunscreen. If you use less or rub it in (off) to make it blend, you are not as protected from the sun and will end up getting tanned (or sunburn, depending on likely you are to be used as a beacon to Gondor). It is also not waterproof for water activities or heavy sweating - granted, it doesn't say that it is, I just assumed since most mineral sunscreens are these days. It does come off with soap and water, but I found it a little drying and needed more moisturizer and lotion than I expected. (Could also have been the fact that I got a tan through it.) I will use this up during my summer sport anyway when "the sunscreen look" is expected, but I am a little disappointed as I was excited to try a sunscreen from CeraVe - I've loved all their other products. Next year I will likely go back to MDSolarSciences Mineral Moisture Defense SPF 50, which is the best I've found so far.

best for value
the best your money can get, it does leave a little white cast but it vanish in a short time, it's worthwhile, no chemicals, not perfect but certainly the best low cost option that really works it has zinc oxide and titanium dioxide both key ingredients to have a full protection from sun damage

Covers redness
My face is naturally a little red so this sunscreen was perfect. It created just enough white cast to cover the redness without needing makeup. On my face, I wanted the white residue look. Just be mindful of that before purchase.
