I used this to replace a failed heating element from an AO Smith 19 Gallon Electric Water heater. Follow the instructions in the manual for your water heater (and some of the tips in the reviews - using dish soap around the gasket for instance), and you'll be golden. Word to the wise - of your old heating element is visibly blown out or melted, go ahead and buy a thermostat and replace that too. Once I had this installed, I found that my thermostat had failed closed and had the water SCALDING hot despite being set to 120F. Once I replaced that as well, my water heater was back. My favorite thing about this was the price. My heater is still under warranty, but AO Smith customer service is borderline useless. This being as cheap as it is just let me bypass that whole experience altogether and get my water heater back up and running myself.

Initial installation failed as when being filled water began leaking from threads. Uninstalled and added plumbing tape and dope has a very minute leak, a couple of drops in element housing that evaporate before hitting floor. Water is hot however a little on edge if leak is going to worsen.
