Your Essential Guide to Dental School Admissions: 30 Successful Application Essays and Collective Wisdom from Young Dentists Review: The only book you'll need to craft a great personal statement - I purchased this book a few months ago and have had it next to me on my desk daily as I worked on my personal statement. It was inspiring for me to figure out the structure and tone of each personal statement sample which helped in just starting the first sentence. The pages following each personal statement in the book contain positive and negative comments which gave me a sense of how the admissions committee would gauge my essay. It's not even a long read! I would recommend reading through this book outside on a sunny day with a cup of coffee when you feel burnt out from writing your personal statement. This book was so so so helpful in my journey of crafting my personal statement and would highly recommend to anyone about to start or is currently working on their personal statement. Review: but what makes this book stand out was how it gives feedback on a lot of very different personal statements so I could tell why an essay was good, what worked for it - Really well put together book. I recently bought this one and the SDN admissions guide. Both has decent advice, but what makes this book stand out was how it gives feedback on a lot of very different personal statements so I could tell why an essay was good, what worked for it, and then compare my own draft to it. I used a book like this back when I was applying to college and I'm glad someone finally made this book for dental school. Two things I wish the book had: I wish it showed us the GPA and DAT scores of these people to give a better sense of how competitive their applications were. Also, maybe this is wishful thinking but it would be cool to see examples of mediocre and horrible essays to learn from too.

Very informational
Highly suggest purchasing this book if you are stuck or clueless about your personal statement. It gives you plenty of examples of how to include the most important details. I loved how I could read the many different routes that brought people to dentistry. There is also great info about the application/interview process as well.

A must-read before applying to dental schools
My friend who got into multiple dental schools recommended me this book. I had no idea how I should start with my personal statement, but this book helped me understand what makes an applicant stand out. It has plenty of personal statements from students from many different backgrounds, so it's not only essays from traditional pre-dental students. I'm so glad I read this book before applying!

Got accepted, nuff said.
Great book, easy read, has fantastics to-the-point tips on how to make myself more competitive as a dental school applicant. I have received multiple acceptances, and have decided to go to Columbia! Will be recommending this book to my cousins who also want to follow the same track. Thanks Dr. Helen Yang!

That is how overdue this terrific book is
I have been teaching Dentistry at Harvard for 30 years. That is how overdue this terrific book is. I have already given six copies to wonderful young people who hope to become dentists someday. Competition for the spaces in the freshman class are fierce. This book helps a young person decide if they really want to dedicate themselves to a dental education. If they do decide to become dentists, this book helps them present themselves as worthy applicants.

A must have!
When I was first writing my personal statement, I had no direction on how to even start it. However, reading the sample essays made me feel more comfortable and inspired me to start writing. Additionally, I was able to recognize what makes certain essays more stronger and apply it to my own essay. I highly suggest it if you are applying for dental school.

A need for pre-dental students who are struggling with their personal statement
This book is amazing!! It provides you a broad view of how you should construct your personal statement. Moreover, as I read the essays, I am able to point out some weak or strong points of an essay, allowing me to navigate what topics/experiences I should touch on throughout my essay
