Can you achieve a very slow simmer with this one. Other hobs I've read say simmer is far too high. I like very slow cooked casseroles.

No. You cannot achieve a low simmer for a slow cooked stew. I really do not understand why people said you can. Also I dont understand how this product has 4.8 stars. 3 stars maybe yes. Value for money, does the job...just. Misses crucial features i.e low simmer, Temperature control.

Is this suitable for melting wax?

I’m not sure but for melting chocolate or butter, I used double boiled, which boiled the water in another pot, and put another pot on top of it, so melt slowly but consistent output.

Hi, My question is - should the 'on/off' button have a circular light illuminated around the outside of the button. Mine is partially lit.

If its plugged in (socket turned on) but the device isn't on it will show a dimly lit ring. I think mine is partially lit. When the device is turned on, then the light is a full red circle.
