I am lucky to have picked this as my first Playstation 4 game to play.
So, today was the day. The day I got my Playstation 4. UPS delivered it at like 5 something. I saw this game got varied reviews. But it looked so fun to me, so I decided that this would be the first game I played. The game is very simple. You run, jump, hit and evade. But it is one of the funniest games I have ever played. What does it mean then, when a game is so simple, but you get such a special feeling when playing? It means the game is just plane fun. There are things you have to think about when you are looking at a game. Important things. How are the controls? What are the graphics like? How is the voice acting? How into the entire atmosphere do you get? Finally, is it enjoyable? My answer to all of these questions is a 110% yes! Everything feels so well done. I can move around easily, jump, hit and just get out of the way of an attack in time. The voice acting is some of the best I have ever heard. That goes not just for games. I set it on hard and many times, I have to do something multiple times to survive a level. I realized that I had gotten lost in the game. I got my first trophy. That was exciting. I just started playing this game. But, I know it will be one of my favorites. One of the best launch games I have ever played, one of the funniest, thought stealing games I have ever played. I am so lucky to have picked this game up. Ignore the bad reviews, do yourself a favor and pick this game up. Some other cool stuff about this game are, one is the slow motion. At times, when you are fighting, everything will slow down and you will see yourself hit the enemy. It is really cool. Second, when you get stuff and build up your character, it actually makes you feel more powerful. I bulked myself out a bit and sat there super happy that my character was stronger. Then I knocked the heck out of some enemies. When I saw the cut scenes and played the game, (I know there may be some interesting things said about this) I felt like I was playing an iPad game. Lately, I have gotten so into games on that device. Everything looks so clean and neat. That is how this game looks. It looks fantastic. I was playing over my grandparents and everything disappeared. That means the game took me away from everything else. Great game. I forgot to mention something. Collectables! In each level, there are collectables. Some are easy to see. You can see the door that will lead you to them. But others are harder. Some levels, when you first start, you have to run backwards and you enter another area. Sometimes you have to go around hitting the walls. Maybe one will crumble and treasure will be inside. Something else I just found out I can do. You can pick stuff up and throw it at enemies. Right now, the only thing I have picked up has been these tank enemies. You hit them until they die, hit square and throw them at the other enemies. Also, one you get enough power, you can use what I guess is magic. You can hit a button to power up, then hit it again and take out one or more enemies. All this happens without slowing anything down. New stuff to say. OK, something that some may get annoyed at is this. When going through a level, if you die at the end, you will restart back at the very beginning of the level. Some of the treasure is gone since you already got it, while the stuff that give you more power is still there. But this is one of those games. You can learn by restarting. I learn which enemy to take down first, or how to survive and enemy by learning it's pattern. Another cool thing about the restarting at the beginning is this, whatever energy you get while going through the level, stays with you. So, say you are having a though time with a group of enemies. Well, the more time you die, the more your energy will go up. Thus allowing you to eventually use an attack that can take them all down at once. It has helped me more than once. Another cool this is using your elements. I guess that is what I will call them. You get a different one every now and then. I got wood. So, you break the wood piles and it goes to your body making you bigger and stronger. There was a part I could not get it. It had wood in front of it. Then, my body caught on fire. It burned like a fire place. Well, I went back to the wood that was blocking the treasure and it caught on fire!!!! Thus opening the door and allowing me to get to the one blocked treasure. Super fun. When I am playing and finished playing this game, I feel like I did when I got my Playstation way back when. This is the first time I have felt like that. Like I have never played a game before. Damn it's fun!!!!

Better the Second Time Around
I'm finding the second play through of Knack is even better than the first time - even when I already know the story. Once you finish the game you have access to all of your gadgets from the first game and you start collecting stones to give you additional powers. This makes it a bit easier and more fun to blast your enemies into oblivion. In addition, if you download KNACK'S QUEST, on your smartphone you can earn stones and other items that can be imported into your regular Knack game using PSN (It's basically a free game styled after Bejeweled, with the Knack twist.) This little game can help you get stones even if you miss a hidden room or two in the main game. Once you beat the game you also have access to a battle arena and a timed battle area. Make no mistake, these bonus areas are hard. I really enjoyed Knack and feel I have to defend it a bit. A lot of reviewers state that they think this is a kids game, and yet they complain about being sent back a few screens to redo enemies and it's repetitive. Well, this is where a bit of old school thinking comes in, don't they remember the games where if you get killed you get sent back an entire level or dungeon and it takes you a half hour to battle back to the same place your character died? (Zelda, Castlevania, Mario, etc.) If you get killed in Knack I think the most you are sent back is 5 or 6 screens, seems like some reviewers are a bit spoiled. This component of Knack may be a little frustrating, but nothing like the older games. Yes, it's linear, but so are a lot of other fun games. As far as repetitive, most games are - go someplace - kill something - pick something up, rinse, lather, repeat. I think the graphic style is appropriate to the style of game. Give Knack a try for what it is, something unique and fresh. Gameplay is easy, the story is charming and Knack is a great character. Knack reminds me of playing the Ratchet and Clank games and parts of Zelda. I do have to agree with other reviewers that the lines Knack is given and the voice actor - while excellent - don't quite suit the character. The Japanese creators were trying too hard to make him badass when he gets big, while forgetting any type of character development when he is a tiny little thing. It would have been more interesting if he had different voices at different sizes. I can't complain about price, unless I complain about every release title out there. Release day titles are always very expensive. I value a game based against movies and playtime. It costs me $10 for a 2 -3 hour movie. If I get more than 18 hours of gameplay, then I feel it is worth it. Some games are fabulous in that department, 200+ hours for Skyrim, 300+ hours for Fire Emblem, and then there are the 5 - 10 hour games. Definitely not worth it unless you buy used. Knack the first time through is about break even on cost, the second time through and the bonus materials make it worth the higher cost. The truth is, you need something to play on that shiny new PS4 and if first person shooters are not your favorite type of game, then this is a fun game right out of the box. If they came out with a Knack 2, I would certainly buy it.

Excellent game considering the time when it was released. You cannot not expect Battlefield like graphics in these type of games.Very much nostalgic similar to the ps2 generation games with improved graphics.Still a nice game.Would recommend everyone to play this. One of the best of kids but adults can also try it's very tricky and hard to finish.

Great game enjoyed with both my 9 year old and husband! They each preferred one player mode as the second player does not have the same abilities.
