i am considering the 10 piece set. description says 10 containers and 5 lids. is that correct?

5 lids, 5 containers. Not the quality we have come to expect from Pyrex products, but considering the price, not a bad deal.

Do lids hold tight? Or do liquids within spill out on shaking?

Yes, the lids seal up nicely. I just tried it out to confirm and water doesn't drip out while holding it sideways or upside down. The lids seal it up tight and no spills.

Yes. That was the reason I bought them. I disposed of all my old plastic containers and switched to glass with BPA free lids. (The lids are microwave safe also.)

The small rectangular pan is 3 cup -750 ml Measurements are 7 x 5 x 3.5 inches Pyrex 7210.The large is 4 cup - 1.5 L Measurements are 8 x 6 x 2 Pyrex 7211 Hope this helps.
